Help Finding an Artist

Hello all.

Some years back (probably at least 5) I saw a track linked (as a YT vid) somewhere on the internet (possibly here) by a new-ish artist. If memory serves correctly they were Ukranian. Certainly from a former Soviet bloc country. The music was intense, Autechre-like without the cold metallic vibe, very hyper-edited and if I’m being honest, what I would call quite ‘unmusical’. The cover was plain, perhaps grey. That’s about all I have to go on other than telling you where I was when I heard it which would probably be of no value in figuring out the answer.

I have had no luck tracking it down again over these intervening years. Any ideas would be most welcome.

Merci.

Edit: ‘glitchy’ is not the right avenue. It wasn’t clicky high frequency stuff, very much more full range and considered arrangement even though densely packed time-base wise.

If this vague mess of a request is decoded and solved in just one post, LyingDalai will go down in history as the most diverse and possibly clairvoyant music scholar of the modern era. Kudos both of you for both the impossible challenge and the inconceivable interpretation.

Hi. Thanks for giving it a go. It’s not it (sorry to dash your hopes @shigginpit). The music is too slow and spacious, the one I’m looking for is hyper-dense, like barely a millisecond of silence. Perhaps ‘Autechre-like’ is misleading as Autechre mean many different things to many people. The vibe I meant is Gantz Graf era, bordering on noise terror style Ae. Also the cover was grey as in just grey, almost like this

Someone must know as I’m almost certain it was posted on this forum when I was a wee young lurker. I don’t really frequent anywhere else.

This was a label release or was it something just posted to bandcamp? Are you sure you heard it on a forum? It wasn’t youtube or just browsing bandcamp/spotify/soundcloud? I can’t imagine it was because I never do that, but I’m sure someone does. What made you think he was from that area of the world, the name?

*I see now you specifically said it was youtube.

Pretty sure it was posted as an embedded video off YT with a comment mentioning their country of origin which lead me to have that association in the back of my mind. I’m not a fan of recommendations surfing either. Don’t do Soundcloud or Spotify. Bandcamp only when it’s for a release I want to buy. I’ve tried searching the forum a few times but no luck.

Is this it?

Or maybe this

First is too musical and not nearly dense enough. Talking close to noise music here, absolutely minimal melodic elements.

Second is very much closer but still too ‘tasteful’. Also lacking the eastern bloc association.

Thank you for trying!

I heard this artist died at burning man last year.

On the inside, he did- and he didn’t even go to Burning Man

His remains did though, to be burned.

For the last time Chuck, you can’t refer to every cremation as the “Burning Man Festival”!

I would think so. I can remember exactly where I was when I heard it and that would fit.

Not the one. Sorry. :disappointed: Thank you for trying.

This thread reminds me of a Steven Wright joke

i went to the video store to rent a movie. I told the guy its about an army that made submarines out of nerf and they wouldn’t sink. Then I remembered that wasn’t a movie but a dream I had.

He told me “thats not a movie thats a dream you had”

"How did you know?

Because you were in here last week trying to rent the same thing"

i told him “Let me know when you get it in”

Worth checking, but no. I know their music too well to get confused in that way even if I am becoming old and decrepit in other ways.
