Help Building a Definitive 2025 Guide to Updating / Backing up Machinedrum / MCL

I have a MD UW+ and an MCL. I am not really very good with things that require unusual protocols like SysEx for updating things and since I bought the MD I haven’t backed anything up to my Macbook (running Ventura), mainly because I simply don’t know what I am doing and this all feels well out of my depth. Posts and instructions say ‘use C6’ but it will only run on Snow Leopard. Transfer doesn’t work and won’t see the MD - what do I do?

I have read all sorts of confusing posts explaining SysEx Librarian but all the answers seem to advanced for me and I so badly need a paint by numbers tutorial as I really struggle with this.

  1. I want to update MD to X.11
  2. I want to update MCL to 4.6
  3. I want to backup my projects
  4. I want to learn how to transfer samples

If you could help out a brother I would really appreciate it and maybe we could collate some answers in this post for the new 2025 Machinedrum users out there.

I am going to keep reading up what to do in the mean time.

I’m running a C6 on a couple of Intel iMac and MacBook running high Sierra and works really well I’m running the elektron 1.63 but upgrading to X11 soon!

What model of MacBook are you using if it’s a i5 or i7 maybe you can run High Sierra and for the x11 upgrade maybe it’s easier

Its a Mac M1 running Ventura.

I spent all evening trawling Discord and Elektronauts just trying to find definitive answers to my questions and I am going round and round fractured and dated threads from the last 7 years.

I see there’s a workaround to make this with Audacity and Sysex Librarian so you can do it but if you have the MCL I understand that have sample management
