New DT user here and I love this machine. Long time MPC1K and OP-1 user and heavy bargain bin vinyl sampler in a hiphop/triphop style as you can hear here
Spend all last night putting my head around it, first messing around with presets, mutes, global effects, etc etc awesome as I really want to use it live, by itself, as I used to with my MP or the OP-1.
Then I went straight to sampling with audio ins, had a bit of buzz… probably due to the fact that my battery powered PT-01 isn’t earth connected (however you say that) but I’ll plug it to the wall tonight and see what happens.
I tried creating slices from a break, sequence different slices on 1 audio track, no problem there (love the fact that they automatically choke eachother up , phew!) but having slept on it I think I’ll have even more fun with one shots which I’ll play around with tonight.
Apart from drumbreaks, I think that being somewhat “restricted” to oneshots forces you to work on your melodies rather than slicing parts of a riff and play around with it, we’ll see.
Also looking forward to add stereo image and lushness to melodic parts with the FX sends… what a great idea that is. And filter single audio tracks live…

Have fun with your DT, and don’t forget to save often, both project and “kit”.
One cool trick is (first save your Kit by pressing Func+Yes then) using Track + any knob to mess with the sound, go towards weird territories or filter, or small decay to get a nice groove emerging, and then bag, reloading with Func+No… So much fun to be had there!
Seeing where you’re from, I can only imagine you’ll get drop pretty beat grooving in no time! Have fun!

Yes indeed, I mainly try to propagate/enforce the Operator-1 spirit in da place
Another trick : I really love bpm and mute per pattern.
The cool thing is to have a long sample (or ambient loop set on INF decay) on pattern #1, let’s say on track 8.
Press Stop button (only once) : track 8 keeps playing.
Change pattern, you may get this weird artefact if you’re using delay as tempo changed. I like this.
Let’s say on your pattern #2, your track 8 is mute by default : track 8 of pattern & keeps playing !
Now press play : tempo change is almost unnoticed !
Unmute Track 8, and you really arrive in Pattern #2 territory !
I really like to do so ! Give’s so much power !
Once you’ve messed with your patterns, they stay in the state you left them, without reloading.
So it’s good practice to reload them.
Or even, if we’re talking about a project used for live, to reload the precious project.
Easy to mess up while you’re not comfortable with this (especially because there is no backup so far) but it gets easier with the time (and a few errors, to be expected).
=> Make sure you duplicate your projects once you’re satisfied with them !
i have a few of one shot oriented drum machines, and i have to say since i first sat down with my digitakt i have not approached it the way i approach a drum machine. It may be because im treating the digi like an OT mini rather than an AR mini. Ive put together a bunch of drone oriented stuff and have been “slicing” up rhodes loops which lends to the more traditional mpc style sampling. i am thoroughly enjoying the box.
