Heftig heftig heftig…
Heftig heftig heftig…
Sophie performing Ponyboy at Day for Night
Felt like my chest was being kicked in
Geezer Butler made basslines that sounded like Satan’s Pigs Of Death, grunting and snarling away under Tony Iommi’s guitars… unmatched to this day…
Would love to hear this on a proper PA.
2:29 in this video surely qualifies?
No, I wasn’t there, but even through the sh*tty phone microphone I can tell it’s the heaviest bassline I’ve ever heard!
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club always had a really satisfying and heavy bass tone.
Dead Meadow, too. I once saw them do a show that was so loud & fuzzy people in the crowd started spontaneously laughing. I was one of them. Some kind of limbic joy response. Wonderful and uncanny sensation.
Mastodon, Blood Mountain tour at Irving Plaza. More the songwriting and performance than sheer volume but boy it was very loud too. Lots of tom fills.
Primal Scream doing XTRMNTR. Same venue. Mani on bass. Hotter than the sun.
Massive Attack, Mezzanine XX at Radio City Music Hall was the clearest bass sound I’ve ever heard at that volume.
Swans at Bowery Ballroom were pretty damn intense but not especially bass-focused. Tiny venue overwhelmed with sound. And the crazy part was that this was during their “quiet” phase, so they were holding back.
On the flip side, Slayer were sort of disappointingly trebly. Mixed badly, echoey venue. Clickety bass sound. Shame.
I saw them live in 1978. Van Halen opened up for them. After Van Halen got off, I thought, WTF is Black Sabbath gonna do? Then they did it. Cheers for the tritone!
that MBM is a tune ! shame it’s unobtanium
This was a bit of anthem at the club I DJ’d for, and I used to absolutely love playing it… probably because i had danced to it on the dancefloor and knew how ridiculous the bass hit!
I have pretty good memories of loads of Opgezwolle (Dutch rap group) live gigs. So many amazing productions by Delic. Bass slaps good enough:)
I went to Ninja Tune XX in 2010(?) held at Ewer St. car park which is basically a couple of bridge tunnels. Bottles of water and Red Stripe. Condensation coming off the walls. A matter of opinion where the smoking area actually started.
After what felt like a subterranean eternity and a full gamut of artists The Bug came on and played Skeng and the soundsystem might as well have punched a hole straight through me. It’s a miracle I wasn’t sick.
It’s funny, that you mention The Prodigy, because after reading the thread title, I was going to mention “Poison”, by them. And not only its strength was of epic scale. The discrepancy of what I heard in my home and then live at venue was of even more epic proportion.
Digital Underground - The Humpty Dance
yeah, if it had to be one it would be Mick Harris; eg The Only Place | Scorn | Ohm Resistance
