Hi all! First time poster here, I’m an upright and electric bassist and have been looking for an effects unit to use live and have pretty much settled on the AH plus FX as it seems like it will be relatively easy to interface with the mic pre that i use as my front end
Seeing the bass focus mode I’m toying with the idea of making my signal chain stereo so I can take advantage of the stereo field of some of these fx without messing up the phase in my low end. Does anyone have any experience in using it this way? Signal chain would be (simplified) SCA n72 → AH plus FX → radial highline stereo.
Anything else I should think about for this use case, or alternatives I should consider? Thanks in advance!
Yeah, I have the AH+FX at the end of my dawless setup’s signal chain and I think it’s a great device for that. And to be honest, I don’t think there are many, if any better options for that, if you want to only use one box, as it has many useful tools for being the master effect in your chain (compressor, eq, bass focus, saruration modes, multimode filter etc.).
Like mentioned, at the end of my dawless setup and I mainly use the Clean Boost, Saturation or Enhance from the saturation section + the filter (I usually use it as a HP filter to cut some of the lowest frequencies and also for adding a bit of different saturation, as the filter’s “Dirt” is really nice sounding and you can combo it with other saturation methods) + the Bass Focus, I usually tighten the lower frequency stereo field, but it also works as a good mixing and why not even a live performance tool, as you can use it to cut for example bass quickly away (same with the bitcrush effect as well, and many other are also tools you can use in many ways, when thinking outside of the box) + of course the EQ, which is really good sounding module as well. Oh and I also use the compressor, but as I have better compressors in my studio, I usually use the compressor in AH+FX to manage the sound levels (with the make up gain)
When recording solo instruments: a lot of tools for that. And here the other saturation/distortion modes come into a good use.

But all in all, it’s a very versatile unit, which I think quite many people are overlooking as it is also not the cheapest unit out there. But IMO, if you are like me and find many use cases for it, it’s not really that expensive really. A lot of bang for the buck, if used in several different ways.
