If you want FX in the chain, it’s really handy having them all combined in one unit.
Especially so because you can move the different modules around… so the Heat section can come pre/post Rev/Del, for example, which makes a big difference to the sound/options.
I have the AH+FX in my studio and the AH mk2 plus Line 6 HX Stomp at home… and they’re just different tbh, obvs wayyyy more options with the Line 6, but I’m happy using both and pulling in more specific/coloured fx into the AH+FX chain when I need them.
But, as of right now, buying an OG Heat (secondhand) and adding a separate FX unit is going to give you way more bang for the buck than buying a new AH+FX.
I also think the OG Heat ‘Heat’ section sounds better than the AH+FX.
AH+ offers a gain boost, which is pretty handy.
And some FX are real good for live performance, thinking of a compressor and the bass recentering for instance.
The Heat section of OG Heat is the same as the AH+ as far as I can tell.
Just for the record, in France second hand is
AH: 400€
AH mk2 : 500€ (one can be found for 474€ right now)
AH+ : 800€
So right now AH mk2 is a good value indeed.
Close to an OTO Boum actually.
The mono bass, compressor and extra LFO make the +FX worth it. The reverb, delay, chorus and vinyl sim are the icing on the cake. But if you only want the drive models, the OG or MK2 are still brilliant
…the differences between mk1 and mk2 are ot like…same same, just al little face lifted…
plus fx is uberfancy but has no truu analog only design anymore…but that was the whole point of this device in first place…if u want it for, what made it sooo unique and outstanding, the mk1 will always do…
The AH+FX can do stuff that no other effect unit can. Using 3 seperate lfo’s and an envelope follower to modulate the filter and different effect parameters opens up a ton of possibilities. The question is, do you need this for your music. If you only want a delay and a reverb on top of the heat section, than a mk1 or 2 plus external fx boxes might be the better solution.
That is a great price for the MkII; but having the effects integrated into one box is a huge thing in the FX’s favor, in my opinion - even if I wish the interface was better.
Consider what you’d actually want for effects.
Are there many good options for stereo multi-fx pedals in that price range, other than the Hologram Chroma console?
I’m not sure that has the same flexibility as the Heat +FX with its envelope follower and three LFOs.
And it’s another box, with another power brick, another MIDI cable, more audio cables to route, etc.
