Hearing external audio question

hi fellow elektronauts!!
i have probems setting up my volca fm2 to my digitakt:

“Korg Volca FM2” is receiving MIDI notes from the “Digitakt” (so the sequencing works), but the audio from the Volca isn’t being routed into the Digitakt
so i only hear sound directly from the Volca.
could somebody help me with fixing this issue?
thank you so much its driving me crazyy!!

Go to the external mixer (FUNC+MOD) and turn up the EXT.IN values.
And in case this isn’t clear, an audio cable from the Volca into the Digitakt inputs.

thanks for the response maybe this is dumb but i dont see a "MOD’ button on my digitakt…

I don’t have mine in hand rn but it’s the button underneath the rightmost encoder, maybe it’s called mixer or lfo?

On DT1 it is the button named ‘LFO’ which has ‘Master’ written underneath in yellow. Hold FUNC and click through until you get to the right page.

And welcome to the forum

i found the button i use it all the time for the 2/3 menu.
but i dont see the EXT.IN values, i tried to change and test it but the audio remains on the volca itself… should i sent a short video?

and thank you this forum is amazing

This may be a silly question, but do you have the audio out from the volca to the line in of the digitakt? MIDI transmits information about what notes to play and parameters to set only, not the sound itself. That needs a separate cable to route to the input of the digitakt (which can then be made audible by adjusting the mixer settings as above).

aahh i feel so stupid haha i thought for some reason the midi was the only one i needed…
so to clarify i need to have a jack for the headphone input on the volca, to an input for the digitakt? i saw someone on a video having it in only in the “input L” on the digitakt…

i plugged it in like i just described but doesnt seem to work… :frowning:

You need a cable which goes out into a Y shape, the volca fm output is stereo so you need to output from 3.5mm TRS stereo into a pair of 6.35mm TS mono jacks, one goes into the digitakt right input and one into the digitakt left input. Initialize both left and right, center them and match the levels.

The alternative is a single cable which merges a stereo signal into a mono signal, otherwise the signal will be weak using a normal stereo cable into a mono input.

No big deal, everyone has to learn sometime. Have fun.

It doesn’t have to be any specific brand, but if you want stereo ouput into the digitakt this is the type of cable you want.
