Headphone Recommendations?

I bought these after tried so many headphones.
Price is amazing for these monitor cans. Bass is great! I truly think, headphones are a personal preference. I can’t stand the DT770 or Sony MDR. All praised by many, but for me not worth mixing on.

hey guys! long time DT1990 pro and HD650 mixer and decided against speakers and went all in on headphones. With new VSX Immersion One planars and a decent dac amp (Topping DX5) to preserve headroom and dynamics with room correction software … sofar I am impressed … I am able to jam and live mix on my Elektrons via logic + room emulations without recording (note I have an RME UCX) … I played a gig last month and my lower freqs were awful and in the VSX club emulation I felt the same issues , and reference tracks that hit hard like Cobrah sounded clean despite the bass in the club

I am now waiting on the 4.4 balanced cable to take the DX5 and the headphones hopefully to the next level as you get 6W into 32 ohms balanced which is like nearly 3x more power versus single ended cable.

Anyone else here using these or the VSX closed back?

I’ve finally succumbed to the EQ crowd and I’m honestly disappointed I haven’t done so prior lol, it’s a massive improvement.

Hifiman HE400SE with the CustomCans 3D printed grills, Oratory1990’s eq curve adjusted to taste (with LOTS of HQ reference material), powered by a Fiio E09K doing solo amp duty, regular degular behringer audio interface doing DAC duty (the tested specs of the DAC in that interface are more than acceptable for my use case, DACs have kinda been mathematically perfect since the late 90’s)

I’m running EqualizerAPO but using Melda EQ’s in place of the stock parametric so I can copy my exact settings into Reaper’s monitor effects because Windows doesn’t like to play nice lmfao.

Just bought a pair. Will report back after the weekend

cool! i prob have around 10 hours use of them now. Proof shall be how the mix turns out but sofar im feeling this has been an incredibly good purchase. The issues with the bass i experienced live were exactly the same in the nightclub! however im using topping DX5ii dac amp run optical out of my RME - the headphones sound shit direct from my RME UXC ii as it has too low current.

Hey, I have a pair of DT 770 Pro 80 ohm, while i enjoy them i really cant trust them for pads, vocals, and everything in the mid-range, kick-bass also translate somewhat badly to my Uboom X BT speakers, Soundcore Boom 2 Speakers and my cheap JBL IEM.

It seems the AKG K371 can check the boxes for my use in comparison to the DT 770, but I’m open to other suggestions.

I prefer closed back because i often produce outside or when my wife is asleep, also, IEMs aren’t out of consideration but i dont know what they’re worth.

My budget is around 150€ or less used

Thanks for any help here

I recently tried out a pair of K371 and compared them to the Sony MDR-7506. The K371 sounded good and had very strong bass (over emphasised really for my purposes) but I found they clamped my head too tightly and after a while I found they hurt my head. The MDRs on the other hand had perfectly respectable bass, slightly emphasised high end which is good for fault finding, and are very comfortable for me. They’re also cheaper.

Well i’ve had the MDR-7506 years ago and i remember finding them pretty good, but iirc they were quite punchy, almost on an agressive way (maybe upper bass an mids are over present ? don’t know).

Thankd ! Also, does eqing the 770 will make them flatter or it’d not render well ?

Just scored some Beyerdynamic DT-70s (in-ear) to go with my 770s. Would recommend if good value closed-back designs are what you’re after. Otherwise, knock yourself out with a set of Audeze cans…

TMS 2 Studio

Super light, very comfortable…No damn annoying wires - the freedom! And very very low latency

I use my 770s for tracking when I want isolation. I have some 7506 around just as spares and a mix check.

I’m here to talk about some other cans I’ve had for over a year and they have just outperformed all of my expectations.

Focal Bathys. Bluetooth ANC cans. I wouldn’t pay asking price but I lucked into a sealed box for $380 a while back.

I got these when I was doing a lot of travel for work and I gifted my APM to the wife. I hated having to keep a separate non USB C cable and they were always dying on my without the stupid “bra” case.

The battery life in insane on the Bathys. They sound great. They have an aux cable for road jams (still needs power.)

The APM had slightly better ANC but it’s marginal given everything else I drastically prefer on these.

They just do what they need to do and I’ve never had a second thought.

I just grabbed a pair of the Koss Porta Pro Wireless 2.0 headphones and some Yaxi pads, and I couldn’t be happier. Such a fun pair of headphones. Highly recommended. It feels good to give in-ear headphones a rest (and not be wearing big studio cans). The sound signature is just lovely. Like molasses for the ears. Thick, rich, and syrupy sweet. Also super comfy.

Listening to the new BoC album on them right now and it sounds great.

Still using them?
How’s your experience after a few months of use?

I still use them, i find them still great. It isolates the sound around me very well, which i find important.

The only minus i found after several months of use, is that its sits tight, so there a bit pressure on the sides of my head.

Soundwise, its really good for that price.
