Recently I tried to use Overbridge with my Digitakt and it seemed overly complicated for my use. So I deleted it and decided to just use MIDI over USB with the audio outputs going into my interface. The audio portion is working, and I can see the clock on the Digitakt changing to match the Logic project when I start recording, but I can’t seem to record any MIDI notes by hitting triggers on my Digitakt.
On the Digitakt my USB CFG is set to USB MIDI. In the MIDI Config, Input From and Output To are set to USB. In the Logic Pro MIDI settings, Digitakt is checked as an input, and is also selected in the MIDI Sync setting, and clock is checked there.
I’m probably missing some configuration somewhere. Any ideas?
To the best of my knowledge Digitakt audio tracks do not transmit midi, make sure you are on a midi track and I think it will work as long as you enable the track channel on the midi source page by pressing func and pushing the A encoder then releasing both and choosing a midi channel so it can talk to logic, otherwise it’s also smart to check the trig key dest as Kpuscki so wisely points out.
Unless your interface is really special, I would consider that overbridge is not necessary for audio over USB. OB is convenient if you want to multitrack, but you can record the stereo outs of your DT digitally by selecting digitakt as an audio interface in your DAW and then arming a track. When you hit play on the digitakt, audio will automatically be sent to the track. You have to select audio/midi under the digitakt USB config.
Definitely, do what you want here, like if you’re running through outboard gear or something I can see wanting to use your interface, but audio over USB is usually lossless to my ears, whereas analog signal path is not always that way. If it isn’t important to you and you don’t mind the extra cabling, then what you’re doing is fine.
