Regarding Overbridge… part of me wishes it had never been announced. The machine is amazing without it and all the whining is getting on my nerves. It’ll come eventually, but the DT is seriously powerful without DAW integration.
Is my Fender Jazz Bass useless because I need an interface to record it? My piano doesn’t have Overbridge either… what a piece of junk!
Even if you bought it with OB in mind, the constant moaning is getting old. The device is more than just a glorified plugin.
What adds insult to injury, is my AR mk2 is now faulty and needs sending back to Elektron for repair - not a great era for Elektron boxes in my life right now
First and foremost it’s the attention to the sound design. I’m more avare of the sonic quality of my work and free to combine different sound sorces. These days I’m working mostly with electroacustic instruments and in a way this has been inivitable but Digitakt has helped to realize this sooner then I thought. It has helped to bring different instruments closer to my creative process: guitars, pianos, digital and analog synths, human voice, found sounds etc. I’ve been focusing on Digitakt to take over the duties of my main composition tool for one year and soon it will reach this landmark of working mostly inside this little flashi box.
I feel you here, man. Traded my DT for a Push 2 which has skyrocketed my Live workflow and I’m cranking out more songs than I have in a while, but at the same time I miss those clicky little keys and the immediacy from the DT. Once OB is finally out I’m 90% sure I’ll replace the DT. Or if I don’t want to worry about OB I’ll try out an Octatrack.
I’ve been listening to the records I put out 3 years ago, and I feel a sentimental pull to return to the OT/A4/MDUW. It felt special- and I was nearly completely covered.
Oh cool, I’m glad you’re enjoying Push 2 and it’s helping with production. I recently bought a Push 2, but just don’t seem to be able to get into the workflow - think I need more concentrated time with it. I’m not a fan of Ableton - tried for years but the layout is horrible - I’m a Logic fan. If and when OB is relaunched, I hope that it is slick with Logic, as the first OB was rubbish with LPX.
I’m not giving up my DT though, as I really do enjoy the workflow - it’s not quite as good as my AR mk2 (when it doesn’t have a fault haha) for workflow, but it is half the price - synthesis functionality excluded in this comparison of course.
OT is great, but I sold mine a little while back as the workflow was crazy difficult compared to the new gen Elektron stuff. I miss the extended sample functionality though now - having to resort to prepping my samples in Ableton first and transferring to DT to get time stretching/slicing sorted.
I was a Push 1 owner and loved it so I was unsure of the Push 2 but it is pretty sweet to have. Personally though I much prefer creating on Maschine with my MK3; it’s SO fast at creating quick yet professional sounding beats. Browsing on the Push is still kind of a nightmare. But aside from that it’s a fun controller if you’re all about Ableton.
Have you tried Bitwig yet? There are scripts for the Push 2 to work in Bitwig and they look absolutely nutty. Plus Bitwig seems more fashioned towards using your hardware gear with it in tandem. It’s too much for me since I don’t really own any hardware anymore, but you just might like it!
I’ve heard! I love a machine that keeps me learning. My biggest problem with buying hear is I figure out all of it’s nooks and crannies much too early then I start to get bored with it. I hate that about myself haha.
Thanks for the feedback, I heard the Machine MK3 is super quick - I never really spent any quality time with Maschine, as my first initial impressions with Maschine Mk1 weren’t good. My brother has a Mk3 so will be sure to give that a go.
Never tried Bitwig, it has an Ableton feel to it though for obvious reasons, so sure it will be familiar - will DL a demo and check it out. The scripts sound cool - thanks man.
A typical scenario for me is this: I start up the DT to add some samples to the +Drive, typical admin work. And from auditioning one of the samples I almost invariably end up making a weird beat from tweaking said sample and just building stuff around it spontaneously. It’s so much fun.
I wanted to dump my Pulse 2 and Blofeld synths for some cash for effects pedals but then a guy messaged me and suggested a trade for his second hand Digitakt. As I had five Elektron boxes prior to that it was really a no-brainer. From the first minute I opened the box and hooked it up I’ve been in love with the machine.
I’m still having trouble wrapping my brains around the Octatrack but Digitakt was intuitive from the first session on. It’s just so much fun and sounds really pure and clean. My favourite of all my Elektrons. When the OB eventually arrives, it’ll be a superb bonus, but I’m really happy with mine right now. So HBD, Digitakt!
The GAS I had for digitakt (my first and only elektron) was awful. I was watching all the YouTube videos like a man possessed. I kept saying the word ‘digitakt’. Eventually I made the pre-order, and got one in the second batch.
I’m still obsessed. It’s so neat and cute and fast. I can make special sounds and if there is no new features it will still be the best piece of kit I own. BUT I’m still obsessed and I want new features xxxx digitakt
Digitakt
I quite recently sold my NI Machine Studio to fund my Digitakt Purchase and I am already sure that was one of the best decisions i’ve made. I was initially worried about not being able to sample in stereo but those worries soon disappeared when I realised how good the Digitakt sounds. It’s really intuitive and a lot of fun!
share your opinion on what the Digitakt changed in your workflow and why you keep this box in spite (or because) of its limitations.
It has become my main instrument. Despite it’s limitations it’s a very complete instrument, and I have made tracks using only Digitakt. The groovebox aproach appeals to me. It’s very easy to start making a track on Digitakt. The workflow is really smooth. It’s so fast to whip up some kind of rudimentary drums/bass/arp/random noise combo and then start playing keyboards on top of it, then go back working on the backing tracks.
The conditional triggers, parameter locks, fills etc. can liven up the track so much and extend it’s capabilities so, so much. And most importantly it sounds amazing. I feel like it kind of gives some kind of extra punch or clarity to anything I put in there. The overdrive is amazing, the delay and reverb at the very least fit for purpose. The generally maligned bitcrusher is also something I find really appealing and fitting for my style. I have barely even started using the master compressor.
It’s not a perfect instrument but it’s really, really, really good and most importantly a very fun and complete device to use. It has also come a long way from it’s shaky launch and I’m really interested in seeing what is gonna come next for it.
Maybe because it’s toxic and making this a bad community. Every single thread needs to be diverted into OB talk? It took this one, what? 2 minutes before it was brought up?
sure, even though the OP asked people not to!
I didn’t think it would work somehow.
But asking people to stop feeling let down about something because you don’t care about it is not really all that likely to work.
I think actually the noise has dropped off a lot since the update. But if the aim is to see even less of it I reckon ignoring people complaining is better than replying to their complaint with “stop going on about it”, because they just makes people feel like their legitimate concerns are being dismissed.
ymmv of course.
And of course, ignoring things written on the internet is not really what the internet is about
