Where?
True Skool Youth Empowerment Center in Milwaukee Wisconsin. True Skool is housed in the Shops of the Grand Ave on the Plankinton side below TJ Maxx. 161 W. Wisconsin Ave, Suite 1000 (Lower Level down the big awesome circular stairs)
It will be a Saturday so Milwaukee street parking is free. If I recall correctly so is the parking structure attached to the Grand Avenue.
What will we cover?
*Sampling and editing
*Gain staging
*Slicing and kismet
*Time and pitch as magic
*FX techniques and advanced scenes
*Drones and beyond
*Mixing
*Actually creating tracks rather than dicking around for hours.
What should I bring? You MUST bring:
*Positive learning attitude.
*Octatrack loaded with samples and this sample kit: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/6826950/CAMEONEKIT.zip
*1/4" Stereo pair.
*Headphones!
*A donation to True Skool in the $10-?? range. You can bring cash or donate via Paypal on the True Skool page: http://www.trueskool.org/
*Food/drink, especially fantastic homemade stuff that you will share.
What should I NOT bring?
*Children/pets
*Alcohol/drugs
*Hate/Bias/Phobia
*Extra people who have no relation to this workshop. Milwaukee is pretty cool so find something for them to go and do for six hours. Four museums within walking distance.
Where can I stay?
There are many hotels in the area and at least one is actually in this mall. Sounds convenient!
Last thought: This is a learning session not a lookie-loo intro to the Octatrack. Make sure you already understand the basic track and sequencer functions. If you do not already own an Octatrack, I do not recommend coming to this workshop.
And here’s a pic of the actual space we will be working in:
About to start looking into a place to crash for the evening. Can anybody recommend a good hotel, and by “good” I don’t mean “cheap”, but good as in not a shithole hotel.
Thanks.
Edit: I started to look into just flying up for the event, but the earliest flight I can find doesn’t get in until 933am that day. Looks like I’ll have to fly in Friday night and get a room. Anything going on after this event that I should consider staying till Sunday for?
Of course this is completely subjective but I think one of the nicer places is the Hotel Metro. The newly renovated Hilton is also looking pretty good these days and of course The Pfister is your classic “fancy” option.
I’ve updated the attendee list and we are at 9 of 12 spots filled. Exciting!
We will have two synths available for sampling at the workshop: OP-1 and AK.
The link to the sample pack has been taken down temporarily since many of the samples were not in the correct format. Today I will fix and repost.
Last thought, I am looking for suggestions on how we can have a camera pointed at the screen of my OT and run to a nearby monitor. I already have a 30" monitor with an HDMI input we can use, I just need ideas on the camera.
