I’m looking for a pedal to run my Digitone in to. I want it to be midi controllable so that I can have some creative fun sequencing the pedal. I don’t have any specific FX in mind I just want something that will allow me to make some crazy sounds. Let me know your favorites.
Strymon El Capistan V2 is amazing with the DN! It’s all subjective, but I love the combo!
I’m pretty sure the Chase Bliss stuff has midi, definitely the Empress Zoia (and a lot of the Empress pedals I think). Haven’t explored this myself other than the Empress Echosystem and Reverb to change patches.
- Meris LVX or Mercury X
- Chroma Console or Microcosm from Hologram Electronics
- OTO Bim and Bam
- Eventide pedals
- Source Audio pedals
- …
Hi, Regarding pedals for synths I would recommend to check that the desired pedal supports not only instrument but also much hotter line levels that are provided by synths like your DN.
All Meris pedals are MIDI controllable, and can also be configured for either line- or instrument-level signals. I think all the recent Chase Bliss pedals are also MIDI controllable, same with Strymon, Empress, etc. but many of them (including Chase Bliss and Meris) require 1/4” MIDI, so you’d need a 5-pin to 1/4” converter (I’m using the Disaster Area MIDI Box Four in my rig - works great).
Strymon Volante and Meris LVX are both pretty interesting. At this stage I prefer the Volante but the LVX can get a whole lot weirder. Both have din midi and can do line level.
Another Meris LVX vote here… it’s not just a delay pedal… it offers multi-effects, full midi implementation, and sounds great with guitar OR sampler/synth/groovebox (I run my Ableton Move through it).
I use a Morningstar MC8 with expression pedal for in depth control.
I had a lot of fun running my old Digitakt into a Red Panda Tensor and using the DT’s sequencer and MIDI LFO for extra glitching. I don’t have the DT or the Tensor anymore but I’m still a huge fan of the Particle 2. Red Panda pedals have really good MIDI implementations and support line-level instruments no problem.
Here’s proof-of-concept:
