Guidance acquiring a secondhand Digitone

Hey yall!
I’m thinking about buying digitone from 2nd hand because I found kinda good deal, and also I cant afford new one. I need help what I should ask to the seller, so I wont get scammed.
Also I want to ask if digitone is good for beginer, Im kinda new to this.

Thx for reading this and I wish you a great day to the person who is reading this!

Edit: Thx yall for helping me, I’ll buy it as soon as I can, which will probs take me a while, but Im close

I think that’s a more important question than the good deal.
Do you have played with FM VST ? Do you like the sound you get from them ?
FM is really different than VA/substractive so you might hit a wall and play preset for a while if you are not that familiar.
Digitone is FM but with less hassle, maybe the easiest to learn FM.

Digitone is an easy Elektron from the sequencer and the overall UI. One of the easiest I would say. But FM engine is … FM engine.

Ask him if the encoder works without jumping all around. If there is known issue. If he is the first owner, has the box+manual. And make a WhatsApp/Skype/Messenger call/video.

Usually, the Elektrons are pretty sturdy and don’t break easily. Turn all the knobs and buttons, listen for crackling noises when turning the volume knob. And there’s a health check you can start if you boot the device into recovery mode or whatever it’s called. It’s explained in the manual (which is really good by the way).

Personally, it took me a few months to learn the Elektron way of doing things and I didn’t anything know about making music. But I’m also a quick learner and spent loads of time with it. I had the Model:Cycles though! It’s basically a more accessible version of the Digitone but it lacks a lot of functionality, especially polyphony and deeper sound design. But it’s quicker and less confusing. It will also be super easy to switch to another Elektron device further down the line.

If you’re in a country that has Reverb I would go that route as there are plenty on there in excellent to mint condition for around $400 right now. Buy from a seller with good feedback.

Digitakt 1 is around same price and probably easier for a beginner as Digitone has added learning curve of FM synthesis and issues like voice stealing that you have to manage. All depends on if you want to learn sampling vs. synthesis, though.
