I have been owning a Move for a while now. And I can say that I haven’t used it as much as I originally intended to. Have I completed a single track with it? No.
I am a bit disappointed about it. The size and weight make it a portable but not really likely to fit into a bag with something else, or a device that I can just put into a pocket and carry it with me during lunch break.
The speaker it comes with is really crappy (sorry to say so) so you definitely need headphones no matter where you are using it.
Being able to continue your work in Live is nice but in the end I haven’t really done much with it.
On the contrary, I shortly owned an EP-133 KO2 and I regret I sold it. It had so many constraints but its playability was awesome. I made more stuff with it than with the Move. The speaker is much better, the user interface is just way more intuitive, its sampling capabilities are all I could need and they just work the way you would expect them to. I missed not having synths and polyphony, that’s true.
So kudos to TE for such a nice product. Would I buy the OP XY? Honestly I don’t want to pay 2.5k€ for such a unit. But I would definitely like to try it out at some point.
On the other hand, if I am not on the move (no pun intended), I prefer to get out the MPC Live 2 to lay down new ideas. And usually I also manage to turn them into full tracks directly on the device.
I wish sooooo much there was a portable device with m8 power capabilities but with some sort if note input/classic sequencer/ keyboard.
Just put an M8 in a Yamaha QY100 body (slightly thinner, 25 years have passed) and integrate them nicely.
Add a couple of very flat knobs to be assigned for some live tweaking if needed.
Take my money.
lol the Woovebox gives my fingers blisters just looking at.
People asking for all sorts of whack isht on here…keyboard, drums etc - read the title - Groovebox! At best a groovebox would have a step programmer and thats it…any additions to a groovebox in the traditional sense would be another person with drums or whatever…i think the majority on here are confusing the term groovebox for a physical DAW
If you ever tried the MPC Live 2 or even the EP-133, the Move speaker comes nowhere close to them. And btw cranking up the saturator does get you some more volume but it still sounds quite “cheap” to me
Given you’re a pretty advanced user of grooveboxes etc. have a quick look at the “Learning the Woovebox” section, and particularly the “Advanced” users section.
For someone like yourself, it may help you to get to the meat quicker, and appreciate the things that make the Woovebox unique/tick.
The sonicware device that comes closest to meeting this goal, the lofi 12xt, is not mentioned at all. It’s small, battery powered, fun to play, and has a tracker like sequencer just the same way elektron does. Also has a bunch of fun performance tricks and features that help you produce full songs like mixtape mode.
I have already started reading through the guides to get a better understanding even before the Woovebox is delivered. Thanks for the hint! I am really looking forward to it
The lofi 12 xt has a real strict target which is the lofi style. On the other hand, the M8 is a device capable of coping with every style of music. I believe that’s why it was not mentioned before. Personally, I wouldn’t want to lock into a specific music style.
