Great ! First Cuckoo Octatrack tutorial!

I learned so much with his AR two videos… Great news for me ( and i’m sure for some others) :joy:

Cool. I’ll have to find a spare hour or two to watch that, one never stops learning.

Yes dude…. I began to love the OT since i began to understood (just began) the AR. I like the Cukoo’s way of doing very technically clean tutorials, good voice and talking rhythm, with this feeling he discovers the machine at the same time as us, with his tasty modesty and enjoying…

I love Cuckoo’s vid’s great stuff

When I try and create slices to play like he does several times around minutes 14-18 each time I hit a trig button to play the slice it triggers the entire sample from the beginning. Can’t for the life of me figure out what’s going on?!

Slices mode is On. I slice something into say 16 samples, then the trigs keys light up green to represent slices. If I’m viewing the sample by Track+Edit I can see that the appropriate sample is selected by the trigs, but the audio plays back from the beginning of the sample? Id doesn’t matter which Trig key I press, the display show the first slice being selected only?

Any ideas?!

Cuckoo’s tutorials are a gift to this community.
The Octatrack intimidates folks like no other machine and this tutorial really helps to get over the cliff and encourage potential and current users to get their heads around it.

@Baddcr - hey thanks!

Yep, I’m in slices mode (Func+down) - but each trig (there’s 5 splices light green) - only the first slice is played back. The display indicates this. Really scratching my head working out why?

Just realised there’s another update 1.25E that I haven’t applied, so will go install that and see…

\EDIT: OK, upgrades, still the same… :frowning: each trig begins from the start of slice 1 every time…

Cheers - I created a new project and now it’s working as intended. Still dont know what the issue was!
Typical Ocatrack learning curve. Jam for 30 mins, get stuck for two hours. learn something new and hopefully commit it to memory!

Did you check if you had the start parameter locked to the scene you were in?

That was really great. As much as I know about the Octatrack now, there are things in this video I didn’t know or didn’t have a good grasp on that I learned-for example, I didn’t know you could sample without the sequencer running, and I’ve never tried slicing up audio by hand (only using slice grids), something that will be very helpful for a current project. Cheers!

Great to hear such positive response and feedback! Thank youuu!!
Sorry for being a bit absent lately. A lot of other work related things going on…
I’ve been a noob on the Octatrack for some time, so I know the sort of frustration that might be associated to the machine in the beginning. So with that in mind, I thought it was about time to help others like me to get over the initial obstacles and question marks.

And it makes me really happy to hear that it’s not only helpful to newbies! Thanks for keeping such a friendly vibe around my videos. Much appreciated.

I don’t know when, but my though is to make a second video tutorial on how to jam with the pickup machines, like a multitrack loop box.

Good idea.
When I got my OT and followed the “How to” videos, I quickly realized so many important details were left out.
There are very few sampling/pick up machine tutorials available, and only a tiny bit of those actually make since.

Your videos are full of proper information and fun to watch.
Pickup machine tuts would be helpful to many.
