I’ve seen a huge range of software and build quality of Samsung Android devices at different price points. In my time I’ve used or owned some of their cheapest and most expensive stuff. Right now I’m using an iPhone only to try Ableton Note; I have a Z Fold 4 which was an upgrade from the Z Fold 3. I love it. Rock solid software — and the audio stack doesn’t have the latency issues I see on a lot of Google devices. I’ve had a couple of cheap Samsung tablets, and they’re horrid buggy messes. I’ve also used for a fair amount of time one of their premium Galaxy Tab tablets, and it too like the Fold is great.
If only Google could drive quality among the manufacturers and encourage app developers, I think that the platform could be good for musicians as an alternative to iOS. But as it is? I don’t think so. Too few apps, too much risk in picking a device.
