Gate is usually an on/off signal that precisely tells the controlled synth to trig or shut down the sound.
V/oct (or more rarely v/hz) are used to give this sound a pitch.
So you usually need two cables, one for gate and the other for pitch.
And thus you need 2 CV outs from the A4.
You can use the same A4 track (e.g. CV track) to sequence both signals, as they are meant to be sent together.

yes - i have a stereo splitter cable coming from cv out to trig in and pitch in - getting melody but its always on

If you got the melody, it means you got the v/oct right (give the notes are what you expect).
If itās always on, it means the gate signal is probably incorrectly set.
Check what kind of gate signal the x911 needs, then setup the voltage accordingly in the A4.
