Ghost kicks from the AR? (without losing a track)

i have replaced my MD with an AR for live sets, and need to send a ghost/duplicate of the AR kick to my external compressor’s sidechain input for live sets. and it needs to be tied to the main kick so that it mutes when that mutes.

this was easy with the MD - i had a duplicate kick that was trigged by the main kick, routed to one of the individual outputs.

live set-up is now AR, A4, Slim Phatty, XOX and compressor (Phatty and some OT outputs going through sidchained compressor), using OT as mixer.

i have a fairly flexible midi controller set-up, so i can feasibly set a control to mute/unmute the AR kick and a ghost kick elsewhere. just don’t really want to use up another AR track/voice for this

haven’t done too much thinking/experimenting on this one yet, but anyone got a good method?

thinking that maybe i could use one of the CV tracks on the A4 to send a click that would trigger the compressor?

anyone got any thoughts/suggestions/methods?

(don’t want to use plocks to mimic sidechaining - needs to be live/active only when the kick hits)

If you use the main output for audio, just use the BD output for your ghost kick - side-chain trigger?

Did you try using the kick’s separate out?

forgot to say - i need to keep the kick in the main AR stereo mix. sending it to the individual output will remove it from that, no?

or is it mirrored until removed from the main mix. i really hope it’s this one :confused:

You can select if it’s present or not. Somewhere in the settings.

Nope. Main output and separate output are not exclusive.
You can use both. Take a look at the routing.

super. will investigate tonight. this makes me very happy indeed. was thinking about it the same was as the MD does things. and this is a new machine. hooray :slight_smile:

well i’m certainly a very happy camper now that i found this out. and used performance/scene pages to do lots of mutes/fills etcs. what a lovely machine :slight_smile:
