Getting a Octatrack Mk2 Black on monday

I am super excited. I’ve already downloaded Merlins guide to the Octatrack.

I used to have a sp404a but I couldn’t be friends with it. I sold it. Occasionally I missed it. Then came the 404mk2 and I was just about to buy it, when I thought “hey, what about the mpc one?” I looked into that and realized it’s was half the of MPC Live 2. “Okay, so what about Mpc Live 2? Or Digitakt”. Looks cool and can do eveything. But is has those fingerdrumming buttons I don’t like. Also Digitakt is half of octatrack. “Oookay what about the Octatrack mk2?”… so here we are.

Thank you. I have been lurking for a couple of years and finally pulled the trigger on the Octatrack. It’s a beast. I know. I’ll have to have a lot of patience.

I just got mine yesterday. I’ve been in front of before and been overwhelmed period this time I’m just going to jump into it with zero goal and start messing around and seeing what happens. If I start figuring out a technique I like, I’ll look it up and see if I can figure out how it happened. Maybe I’ll download the Merlin guide as well, and make some templates. I’m determined not to feel too intimidated and overwhelmed this time, I just want to have fun!

Definitely this. Be patient with yourself mostly.

The other day I setup my OT to use as a mixer/remixer for my Digitakt and Digitone. I hit play and got no audio from the DT. I double-checked all my settings on the OT and still nothing. After about 30 minutes, I realized I wasn’t hearing anything because I’d loaded an empty project into the Digitakt. I felt pretty stupid but got a good laugh out of it.

I think it’s great to have a goalless approach.

I’m 2 years in with my 2nd OT. I got some great advice here that’s helped immensely. Welcome and congrats!!

My first OT I just jammed and was stupidly underwhelmed with it. I threw some samples in and slid the fader. It was fun but I didn’t see the value.

My second almost hit the market but I recently decided to commit to making a small EP with it. Wow, I’m glad I did. It’s awesome!

Take your time with it, some nights you’ll have a smile ear to ear. Other nights you’ll probably wanna walk away for a bit.

Hi, I’m a beginner as well. I got mine a month or so ago and use it to control my “trio” of Moog semi Modulars over Midi, and also send 4 midi channels to my Eurorack.

What I aim to do now is to make bleeps, blops, and small sequences on my modular, and record it. I will then put these sounds on different tracks on the OT play them together, and sample internally adding things layer by layer.

What works for me is to take one thing at a time. One weekend I learned to use the arranger and really deep-dived into it. Another weekend I did slicing on flex tracks etc.

Have fun!

this! I used the OT as a backing track with some effect. Then an effect box / mixer for my synth with backing track. Then a drum machine for a bit. Later started with a bit of looping, remixing the other elements… It’s really gradual for me but I’m always met with a tool that will do all that I want it to do.

having a clear aim is the only thing that helped me progress with OT

OMG I got it. It is all black. It lights up like a space ship. A bit smaller than I thought but what it lacks in size it has in power.

I already feel more comfortable with it than the sp404a.

I need to print the manual. It took me ages to figure out how to make a new project.

Great idea to take it one step at a time with a clear goal, while remembering that you don’t have to be a master all at once.

Any suggestions on samplepacks?
