Generative / Breakbeaty

Hello Elektronauts,

Thank you for this amazing forum, I am a newbie here
Very exited to hear about your suggestions.

Recently I have purchased a machinedrum UW+ based on a new attempt to start making sounds again.
After a few months working with it, I am in a phase where I need to expand the possibilities of the inherent sequencer. After some research, I saw that a lot of you switch from the official to the unofficial firmware (latest x.10), adding a megacommand to your MD to extend the possibilities of the sequencer.

Does the megacommand truly opens up new possibilities from your experience ?
Would it in any way compares to the sequencer of the Analog Rytm mk2 ?

My desire is to create generative sequences, with nuances of break beats … if that makes sense.
Thank you in advance for your comments.
Cheers

I don’t have neither, but @waftlord certanily pulls serious breaks and beats from that combo.

Hey @Leonsarmiento

Thank you for the suggestion,
Before making my post here, i was actually watching his videos on youtube !
But it would be helpful to hear from other users on this forum, if whether the mega command is truly an expansive element for the MD without additional gear…. like what we see with waftlord with the Roland, etc …
Cheers guys

The MCL gives you the sequencer capability of more modern boxes such as individual track length, micro timing and trig conditions.

However I would also consider that it actually goes beyond this as it frees tracks from being tied to any pattern or kit with its grid saving structure. It means you can loop independent tracks on different grid rows, then jump to others etc. essentially the concept of kit/pattern loading is lost (or at least diminished) and the focus instead is on the grid.

I suppose this could be seen as a positive or negative depending on how much time you would want to dedicate or can dedicate to learning it. I’m new to it and I’ve enjoyed its way of working so far. But it’s worth being aware that the mcl route does change the fundamental structure of using the machine, or at least for me it did. It’s not just more param locks and micro timing, there’s a lot of depth to it.

It’s something where the manual would be worth reviewing beforehand as well:

It is expansive and creative and has some fundamental differences with extended mode. Previous post nails it.

But well worth the time investment, just cos nothing else sounds like the md, especially when it goes off it’s grid but all the usual func+para kit reload stuff is available.

I’m on a 6 month md mcl hiatus currently. But most current sounds 1&2 shares are md/mcl only.
