Another BIG synth.

Pierre-Jean Tardiveau ( SynTesla ) has been doing his custom synths for a while. I posted about him before in the Gear that is Art thread for his SynTesla VII.

His works are something like Love Hultén – taking various parts of commercially produced synths and repackaging them with a functional yet magical, one of a kind physical user interface. Both of them will do custom hardware for those wanting something special. ( See my post on a custom effects box done for Andrew Huang by Love Hultén. )

Well SynTesla has done a custom synth for none other than Jean-Michel Jarre, called the JARRE Lab One. It has the internals described in my post on the SynTesla VII, with the controls that JMJ desired

( link )

So this is also based on the Korg “Logue” ARM architecture with 4-voice polyphony, two analog oscillators per voice, one VCF, VCA, LFOs, and an SDK-based multi-FX unit. As you can see there is an extra octave added to the keyboard to 61 keys as per JMJ’s request. Apparently this is the synth for a new album, and concerts as well.

So why is this in this thread ? Well there is a real possibility that something like this will be released as a consumer product sometime late 2027, early 2028.

ASIDE : Thread on the SynTesla IX. In a real sense any gear you might get commisioned is GIP. There are other builders too.

Vermona drumDING: This analog/sample hybrid drum machine has a unique workflow, and it made me think a bit of how I can recreate it with what I already have. If you’ve got a semi-modular or analog synth with limited multitimbrality, you can use it for percussion and create a pipeline to a sampler that can do live sampling.

I don’t know they will have this product with them at the show, in slightly over three weeks, but there is a strong possibility for some more info then.

Dutch Modular Fest in Rotterdam on August 29.

Fatar has developed in cooperation with Fender, their first polyphonic-aftertouch pads.

What Fender says ( the language is theirs ) :

The pads themselves are built in partnership with FATAR, and Fender describes this as FATAR’s first pad design, layered with context-awareness so the same pads shift between drum, chord, melody and scale duties depending on what the player is doing.
Source from Fender

Reasonable for the engineers and management at Fatar to have other product intent with this as well. If this product, as claimed, really stands out in performance compared to its competition, and as judging by the Fender products price is economical to manufacture, there could be a wide range of applications. A whole product line ? Could it be made to sense more that just one dimensional pressure ?

Fatar obviously intends to OEM this to others, and could use it in their own products as well.

It’s interesting to consider. It potentially could head toward other keyboard products for Fatar as well.

Could a squooshy keyboard like the ROLI Seaboard be possible ? Or a flat touch field like a Linnstrument or the Erae ? What other shapes other than a square checkerboard might they consider ?

Fatar is always a company to be watched.

So after the SV-2 keyboard release from Pittsburgh Modular Richard Nicol was talking on SonicTalk today, and they are working on mini versions of their SV-1 as well as the Voltage Lab.

Shorter term they also have a drum machine on the way for later in the year, fingers crossed.

This is all apparently on Instagram, a thing i avoid.
