I’m thinking the same, but hopefully they surprise us!
8-op FM is already a lot, and ASM seems to have a novel take on synths so far. Let’s see!
I have my own engineers experience and intuition telling me there is something else brewing as well though likely on a longer time frame, beside the Diosynth and the Leviasynth.
After all a company like PWM has four synths in the works. It is reasonable to find that ASM does as well.
Hmm, 8 oscillators…but no mention of voices. Perhaps it’s a drone synth?
New HW soon from Waldorf.
The Protein. ( thread )
ADDED :
A possibility on that – remember the NW1 ?
How about a polyphonic version of that – the NW8 ?
I am only musing here about this. This or something else could be brewing.
I thought the same thing recently about another company that has made a similar investment.
It is an evil and strong potentially hybrid monster synth, perhaps an elevated version of Minifreak.
Here’s something new. Cuckoo is doing the sound design for this keyboard poly synth ( 49 keys ? ), from a first time hardware synth creator. ( The way that was described you might think they’ve done soft synths previously. ) Twelve minute long video.
It’s a little unusual to do such a long sound-mostly video, and not mention the synth maker, nor really any specific features, nor really anything about when. ( Showing at Superbooth maybe ?? )
Pretty good range of sounds here, and lots of expression possible too. Very much a Cuckoo sort of sound as well.
Fun video production.
Commemts ?
I think the playing zone is a touch surface full of LEDS, like the Erae2. Since he’s not using the top of the instrument, it could mean that there will be physical controls there.
That’s possible, though i saw absolutely no playing movement in the X and Y direction, though it did seem like there is aftertouch, and i think that it was polyphonic though not positive. There seems pretty clearly to be a separate black and a white key region in the Y direction, unlike lets say the layout on a Haken Continuum, something Cuckoo is known to play. ( Watch the way Cuckoo bends and changes notes with X and Y motion on a Continuum, on a video from ten years back. )
I agree with you, there appears to be a keys region along the lower half, which leaves space for a controls area, and maybe a display in the upper half.
As far as synth engine sound, this to me could be physical modeling, with some perhaps FM sorts of qualities too.

In the past Cuckoo has expressed interest in these soft synth items being made into hardware ( article ) :
- FabFilter who makes a soft synth Twin 3
- Plogue Chipsynth
- Spectrasonics Keyscape
Do any of these need another sound designer ?
Don’t know if any of this last part means anything.
It is eight months since the Synclavier said they were developing the ORK II.
A keyboard synthesizer that includes additive, FM, subtractive, sampling, resynthesis, a multi-track sequencer plus effects, with user interface and touch-screen display.
I want to include it here as this synth will be quite special when it is released.

The upcoming synth that I am really waiting for is the Polivoks 8!
Since I love gritty hard hitting drums like Hexdrums and Perkons, this new Polivoks would be super great partner for making aggressive techno.
I’m antsy for this one too. I am planning to preorder it, honestly, because I love the Polivoks sound and an 8-voice bitimbral synth to give it to me sounds pretty much ideal. Been using Polivoks multisamples in my Tonverk and Bento to get into the spirit of it!
Iliad from Artisan Electronic Instruments
This is only a for example configuration. The maker intends these to each be custom made instruments, with between 4 and 16 voices, multitimbral, hybrid analog and digital, with different sized keyboards, or none, and custom color case and knobs.
One might think that this will always be in development, there’s a long history here, that i’ll skip – but it looks like it is very nearly completed now and could be sold.
The voice cards in this thing are ginormous with an equivalent amount of adaptability. Each voice has a separate output. There is also a separate DSP effects section.

There are also more current posts at facebook, but i don’t do facebook.
Maybe we’ll see this at a show. He’s in mid-west US, so Knobcon is convenient, but this would fit in at Superbooth quite well.
me too I want a polivoks to play with my soon to arrive Perkons! that for me would be my live techno setup along with a sampler and dj mixer.
that looks gorgeous!
I don’t even like techno but it would be pretty great for industrial and dark ambient as well. Perkons looks like fun but I’ve realized syntakt is just the happy place for me as far as drum synths go and I’d probably go for hex drums if I wanted an Erica drum synth at this point.
definitely and so far my Virus TI is my main go to synth for ambient, industrial, trance, techno and more. I wanted a Polivoks synth so excited when this comes out. The Solar 42 looks like the best ambience machine next to a Soma Lyra.
