Hi, i really suffer currently at a heavy GAS attack. I bought the A4 already three (3) times and i always sold it
again because of the too small Display and to finance other. Now since the MK2 got announced i am GASing again, though i really have a big pile of great gear ans i really dont need the A4 MK2… But damn that Sound…
I have Ableton Live, Novation Launchpad, launchcontrol for it. Then Korg Odyssey Module, Korg MS20m, Novation Peak, DSI Prophet 6 Desktop, Waldorf Streichfett, Waldorf Blofeld Keyboard, Yamaha CP and DX, Elektron Digitakt, Novation Circuit, Arturia Beatstep Pro and Keystep. And finally a 3U Eurorack system with assorted Make Noise and Mutable Instruments modules.
Please help me and talk me out of the A4 MK2.
I thought I had the perfect remedy for you, but it looks like you currently do not own an A4. If you do tho, go take a look at the latest sales on ebay for some sticker shock (and not the good kind).
I’ve found that sometimes if I switch the lust around, I get confused, so I would say you need a line mixer and some way to make all your wonderful gear play well together. Maybe an Octatrack or a McMillen K-Mix…or a patchbay…or Expert Sleepers…maybe a line mixer or a mixing board?
If none of those attempts to derail the A4 MK2 GAS worked, I would convince myself that I needed more Mutables. That would definitely talk me out of the A4 MK2, because a few more Mutables would be able to do all kinds of cool stuff with the synths I already had…
@castcircle I actually have a patchbay and enough Inputs on my AI. But i see where are you coming from. Try to stay more focussed. @Lukree You are very right. Getting it a fourth time would be insane if i keep all the rest of the gear. Again its all about Focus and Not get sidetracked. Shiny new Display wont help me much since also the direct access i have with my other synths is Not given instantly with an A4. The DT btw. is in this department imho better.
The way I see it, there isn’t much the A4 can offer you that your DT sequencing your Peak, Prophet 6, Odyssey, and MS-20m can’t offer.
Aside from CV modulation of the MS-20m, which your 3U should probably be able to handle.
Try an exercise where you choose 3 pieces of gear, and make 3 compositions.
Now repeat by swapping out two pieces for two others.
Then repeat again…
Now you have an album. Because you have enough gear.
What GAS?
You sir, are a rare breed on an electronic music forum- and an inspiration to us all.
I, however, am fortunate enough to not have all this gear- leaving me wide open for planning on the mk2- unless a great priced AK comes in when I have money to spare <3
With what you already have I don’t think sonically there is anything the A4mk2 will add. Novation Peak alone would cover much more sonic territory.
I had an AK for a while, mainly using it for CV modulation and control of my Euro.
If this isn’t required in your setup I wouldn’t bother at all
@Cosmic Yeah thats what i told myself when i got the Peak. But three times me and the A4 didnt Go along. I would be foolish to try it now a forth time. @Wannop Or a mastering studio for all the tracks that i hammered out once i followed AdamJays advice. @psyclone001 I use the Beatstep/Keystep to sequence the Euro. Its mainly my texture delivery unit and mod CV unit for MS20, Peak and Odyssey.
