Garden "Man-cave" advice

Gents… and ladies, of course!

I’m in the process of moving house. This means I’m being evicted from the house and relocating to a rather splendid summerhouse at the end of the garden. “You lucky bastard” I hear you cry, BUT…

What are the effects on my gear? I’ve checked the sunnerhouse out. No damp present. No heating either but lots of electricity. The previous owner has her desktop, printer etc out there.

I intend to add a layer of egg box foam and double skin it with marine ply and plasterboard with possibly a wood burner ( with proper ventilation) or rad. Obviously, it won’t be heated all the time and i’m going to install a dehumidifier but living in the UK where temperatures vary erratically! Are my MD, MnM, OT, 106, Tascam DP32 and various other analogue and digital desktops going to suffer?

I’ve always had all my gear inside so am slighty nervous ( if not elated! ) to moving into the Great outdoors.

Your thoughts please.

Thanks in advance.

Ha, I have the same thoughts. Due to my fear of breaking anything I still did not make the move yet. But in my case during winter that house would have the same temperature as outside after 2 or three hours without heating. That is kinda extreme for electronics in general, isn´t it?
So I thought, better get a really good isolation this summer before making the move.
In my case the house would be a wooden one. And Big. So the isolation will not be an easy task, I think.

In general, gear can get seriously damaged at low temperatures, so I wouldn´t risk it. Also, when moving cold gear inside the warm house let it warm up for a couple of hours to be on the safe side. Nothing is as bad as abroken piece of gear because a tiny drop of condensed water inside it. No matter if you have a dehumidifier or not, it can happen at significant temperature differences, so be careful.
