I been playing about with microtiming and the general swing settings but cant seem to achieve that skippy type swing used in garage records. Any idea on how to achieve what this guy is doing in Cubase (3 minute 50 seconds) for that long and short skippy swing -
Cubase has its own scale for swing, though, so 66% is a higher setting in Cubase. It seems he has set 91% swing from watching the video. Or even 100% later on, which is the same as a triplet.
Just read that (and the interview with Roger Linn) and went to play with the swing on the MDUW, and it makes a lot more sense now. Sweeeeeet…this beat just locked in exactly how I wanted it to.
Some great tips there. Yeah i changed the swing to 65 and adjusted the time/length plock on (say hi hats) to long then short…Seemed to have a nice shuffle on the go.
Ive read the Attack magazine article on swing. But am still confused on how to get the options (if there are any) in Octatrack for simply changing normal quantization from 1/1-Note, 1/2-Note, 1/4-Note, 1/8-Note, 1/16-Note, 1/32-Note, and 1/64 on some triggers plus getting triplets.
To get grid time and triplets at the same time on the OT you need to use more than one track and individual track length and multipliers.
The triplet track set to a multiple of 12 steps and multiplier to 2/3rds. This way the 12 steps will finish at the same time the other tracks will finish in 16 steps.
