I have decided to buy the A4 and I know its sound isn’t the same as the DSI Rev2 …but if I took its 4 voices in polymode and sent them all to the right guitar pedal (chorus or harmoniser?) I could spread those out to make a massive pad sound?
I’ve seen Loopop do this with the Eventide H9 pedal but that is like a computer and works best with a tablet. Any general recommendations for simpler fx pedals just with preset save functionality
The A4 has a detunable subocillator per voice meaning each voice can be a chord. For example, try OSC1 (root) OSC2 (+3 or 4) SubOSC (5th). If you stack that 4 times, twice, or even just use it once with chorus it’ll be thick enough imo.
It’s not exactly poly, but it’s a decent work around. Any doubler pedal should help in other regards.
The effect that you are seeking is called “Shimmer”. It adds overtones at intervals that you can set. The H9 is using an algorithm from the Eventide Space which is basically the same machine but with a different user interface. The Strymon Big Sky can do this effect as well. Keep in mind that the H9 can be controlled without a tablet and load a lot more interesting effects! The result is fantastic but I would still not call this a polysynth because you are only adding overtones to the signal, you can´t play the notes individually or use the envelopes and filters of the synth.
Shimmer has pitch feedback. @AdamJay combined individual outputs with main, with apparently interesting results (with AK, doable with A4 MKII).
Not the same purpose but controlling osc individually I succeded to make paraphony with a midi controller, but it is complicated and not practical. 8 individual ocs.
I’d say is better to look at this “affaire” from the very basics. If you are looking for a monster pad capable synth better to go for one featuring more voices; you dont buy a bike thinking about how to transform it later into a car
A4/keys has a decent chorus on it, as mentioned before the OSC’s allow you to get a very wide pad patch with little tweaking. It doesnt do harmonizer but these synths sound great on their own, so if you like it go for it and have fun. And yes, H9!
Cheers
The problem with using a polyphonic pitch-shifter on chords is that each of your (up to) four notes will be harmonized at the same interval. Even if this does work for one chord the chances are slim that it will work over subsequent chords.
hey! no I am clear on my needs …the A4 workflow etc is exactly what I want and I find the sound great … It would just be great to have some pad options so I don’t feel the need to buy a rev2 just for that alone.
Between the 3 OSC in the A4 and the Enzo, there’s potential for at least 4 different notes, right there. I also add in a GFI Specular Tempus, which does harmonizing…gets pretty thick fast
