FX not working with external synth

Hey guys!

I finally made the switch from Ableton to OT MK2 and so far, im very happy to have done this step :slight_smile: After getting to know the basics now I’m trying to integrate my Moog Mother 32 into the OT via MIDI sync and via the A+B inputs.
I would like to apply some FX on the Moog track in real-time without having to record a sample from the Moog. The issue I’m having right here is that I’m not hearing any change on the Moog sound once effects are applied and turned to the max. Only after a Moog sequence is recorded and have become a sample I start to hear the effects.
Is this meant to be the way OT is functioning or am I missing something somewhere?

Look up Thru machines in the manual :slight_smile: also A+B is Summing stereo to mono A or B alone is good if you have a single input and AB is how you get a stereo pair.

Several ways of monitoring with FX.
Sorry to add confusion! :pl:

Thru is an obvious one, but you can’t mangle the recording with it.

Pickups also have a monitoring with FX setting in REC SETUP 2 (AB/CD). Limited mangling.
You can monitor and record with a Pickup and switch to a Flex for full mangling possibilities.

I guess you used DIR and a Flex to play the sample?
DIR goes directly to MAIN, except if you set T8 as Master Track > T8 FX are applied to DIR.

It’s possible to monitor with FX with a recorder and Flex.
DIR off
Rec trig with corresponding Flex trig = monitoring (the recording is played directly with FX, can be mangled on the fly).
Remove rec trig to keep the recording (or change to a pattern without rec trig).

Pitching up needs microtiming, because the playhead moves in front of the rec head and thus there’s no audio to be played back.

You can either microtime the playback later (hold trig on the flex machine track and press right or left arrow - use right arrow to move the trig a coupe of ticks) or the record trig early. (Same procedure, press and hold record trig, press left or right arrow, left arrow to move the rec trig earlier).

I usually move the ‘play trig’ a few ticks late.

I usually use later steps. With SRC3 source you can pitch up on the same steps (it’s delayed and plays last rec trig recording).

You can also use swing trigs to delay all trigs.
Practical to experiment without having to set microtiming on all steps…

Without microtiming, you can also pitch down first, then pitch up, reverse…

Indeed, I have tried both Flex and Thru and I used DIR for monitoring. If I understand well, monitoring with FX should be possible with Pickups?
and what does DIR off exactly mean and how do I do that?

I will try the different options once I’m in front of my machine again

By DIR off I meant set to minimum, not necessary.

Everything depends if you want to record, and if you want to mangle the recording freely.
