Thank you for the great forum. I’ve been gleaning lots of new insight on my new instrument, the Rytm.
I was just wondering if anyone else had a similar experience with the FX LFO. (The LFO affecting all Tracks)
I am using the LFO with Compressor Volume as the destination (a destination that yields a very obvious result upon listening).
It seems the only way I can get the LFO to affect the volume of all of the tracks is if I power off and power back on with the MOD set to FREE - flowing mode. In ONE or HALF MOD, the LFO has no result.
Also, if I power up in FREE Mode, i can switch to TRG or HLD, and the LFO still affects the sound, but as soon as I change to ONE or HALF mode, the LFO seems to stop working entirely, even if I go back to FREE mode.
I wouldn’t be surprised if I was missing something very obvious, but it does seem to be some glitchy behavior. Has anyone else noticed this?
Hmm, I haven’t used the master LFO extensively but when I did try it, it only worked for a bit and then it stopped working as you described. I’m not quite sure what exactly stopped it, but it seems buggy so I haven’t used it since.
Have you had experience in using half or one cycle LFOs before? Sometimes there is no modulation due to the parameters involved, wave shape, fade, speed, depth etc…
I’ve just tried it and all modes work just as expected, i assigned a short delay and monitored the variation to delay time which can easily be heard (square is handy) and modulated in a bipolar fashion, all modes worked fine, so i suspect this is likely not buggy as discussed
Playing around with it this morning some more, I think part of the issue is my understanding of the FX track and how it works. After looking back through the manual I didn’t see the FX section (the sequencer, specifically) discussed in too much detail.
So it turns out, the LFO does work as it should, in all modes, if I put a trig or trig-less lock on the sequencer for the FX track.
My question now is about the way the FX track trigs work in general. The default, it seems, is when a trig is entered on the FX track, for it to be a trigless lock. If I try to remove that trigless lock by pushing the trig again, it will not go away. The only way to get it to go away is if I go into the “Setup” page, and turn on the SYNth parameter so the trig becomes a fully lit TRIG, then I can push it again and deactivate it completely.
Any insight on how the FX sequencer works? I’m assuming now that it’s only for trigless locks and for trigging the LFO. What would be the difference between a trig and a trigless lock on the FX track?
Thank you KOTARE and avantronica, the idea to use trigs helped me figure this one out. I knew it was something I wasn’t understanding!
big difference between
so i suspect this is likely not buggy
&
therefore all units have no bugs
i passed on the right amount of encouraging help, as it turns out
before anyone started weighing in with factory resets and send it back comments
i’ve yet to read of a software manifested difference between two units, not that it doesn’t happen, just that it’s unlikely, and more commonly user error in one way or another
lol they are mass produced in a factory with some final hand assembly (but i would expect all circuit boards to be manufactured). therefore, it is entirely logical to assume they will be the same.
bugs can be classed in 2 categories - electronic circuit errors (which have to be fixed in circuit testing before mass manufacture), and software bugs (the most common).
As long as OP is running same / latest firmware, and test conditions then everything should be reproducible. If not then the manufacturer has very serious issues with the product!
baarsvik: if it makes u feel a bit better, i didnt get the fx track too at first
ar is user friendly above all but the manual lacks some details like this one or the AUTO amp env setting.
I take it that neither of you are Octatrack owners, a mass produced box which suffers irregular bugs to multiple users (myself included).
These are software and hardware related issues and it’s fair to expect that, if there is a precedence for this in a separate “mass produced” Electron box then it is possible that issues can exist in another “mass produced” box.
Basic common sense people. You’d be surprised at how effective life can be at smashing your preconceptions.
To OP, glad to hear you’re on track. Most “bugs” are user error.
Yes I seem to be back on track, thanks for the help. Pretty much every time I think there is a buggy behavior with the box, it has come back to my own lack of understanding.
I am still confused as the the difference between a trig and a trigless lock on the FX track. They seem to have the same effect.
A related question: on the trig page of the FX track, what is the point of the SYNth or SMPle selectors, since the FX track controls effects and do not have an synth or sample?
