Future RYTM Owner with a few questions

Hi y’all,

I’ve been saving up for some time and hope to have a RYTM before the end of the year (totally missed the sale some how which really SUCKS!!!).

Anyway, I skimmed the manual but couldn’t really find the answers for the following questions. Hopefully some one will be kind enough to enlighten me.

  1. How well does RYTM behave with Ableton 9? Any timing/sync issues?

  2. Can I export all data of a sequence built in the RYTM to Ableton?
In general, I do most of my sequencing in AB9 but I know RYTM has a bad ass sequencer. My first thought would be to sequence in RYTM and send program changes for different song sections, breakdowns, etc… However, glancing at the manual, it doesn’t appear to show MIDI CCs for parameter locks and other advanced features in the RYTM. On the other hand, in the hopes of eliminating any chance of timing issues, I was thinking I’d write in RYTM, then export sequence to Ableton, then just treat RYTM like a basic Drum Module. I’m wide open to suggestions as well as I would love to hear what others are doing.

  3. Does the RYTM generate a lot of heat? Just curious really. My rack is filled with pretty warm gear as it is. I’m debating about adding a fan rack.

  4. Lastly, is the RYTM’s warranty transferable? Everytime I get close to the $1500 price tag, life gets in the way. So, I’m thinking I may need to buy used (can’t believe I missed the sale). Although there seems to be units with issues and some people have needed to send their unit back to Elektron. With that said, I’m too afraid of buying one without a warranty.

Thanks in advance for all your help! I can’t wait to join the ranks!!!

1.) I don’t use Ableton, but from what I gathered from the responses around here, most people seem happy.

2.) The AR’S MIDI configuration does not address parameter locks specifically. Again, I don’t know Ableton, but can’t you write a MIDI sequence that sends CCs for a specific trig according to how you want it to sound?

3.) It gets warm but never uncomfortably so. I haven’t seen anyone else around bring that up as an issue.

4.) Yes they do. There was a guy over at the Marketplace who picked up a number of units during the sale and is selling now at a discounted price. Brand new. Check it.

Thanks for the quick response xidnpniss.

I’ll have to look more into the MIDI CC’s available on the RYTM. I’m really intrigued by the ability to switch the sample that plays back with the sequencer so I hope that there is a MIDI CC for that. If so, that should pretty much cover what I need.

Also, thanks for the tip about the dude selling new ARs for $1250. I’m hoping to have the cash together by the end of the week, maybe mid next week.

CAN"T WAIT!

:+1:

I would argue that one of the perks (THE perk?) of any of the Elektrons is the sequencer. To only use it as a sound module? A bit of a waste in my eyes.

I would go for creating rock solid sync between Ableton Live and the Rytm. And then use the Rytm for what it’s good at - making beats come to life through the integration of analog synthesis, samples and the unique Elektron sequencer.

Overbridge the output to play with whatever you have going in Live.
