It’s a shame we all ain’t as techy, I’d simply just open it and see what this issue is, I bet it’s something so easy to sort out, just a matter of carefully pulling off all the knobs and remove some screws.
I usually open stuff as routine just to see what’s going on in there.
Erm…bit of an assumption about capability vs will and time…
~40 knobs + 40 nuts + 15 eurorack nuts + gotta get the right tool and be careful so I don’t scratch the brand new faceplate, and then reassemble it all again = 2-3 hours of troubleshooting with a good chance I’m going to have to send it back to FR anyhow…No thanks!
Since I’m lucky to squeeze in a couple hours of actual music making into my typical week, I’m not sanguine on spending that rare opportunity diagnosing and fixing a brand new instrument.
I think you’d just need to unscrew the outer screws on the top panel for opening the case, i.e. no knob pulling etc needed. BUT noone should do tech stuff they don’t want to and it’s clearly a service question…
I’m going off the original 777 manuals description of what was required to replace the backup battery for the RAM or to replace the fuse. Both procedures describe removing all the knobs and nuts.
The remakes/current versions have flat tops while the old ones angled cases and indeed required pulling all caps off.
Compare: Future-Retro FR777 – maffez synth mods (I modded an old one extensively)
with (cropped pic snagged from FB, hope @companyofquail is okay with that)
As long as access to the component side of the main pcb is not required, caps can stay on, I’d infer
BTW judging from the dinnerware in. the pic, FR is a real solid mom and pop store (I mean this absolutely sympathetically!)
Just got my shipping notification! Let the games begin!
in a video I saw the side panels are hold by only a few screws. did you try to take one off? Also it does not take 3h to open and close the whole thing ![]()
Just got the shipping notification of a non-KS unit today ![]()

and of course you all can use any media you find, whether it be from socials or kickstarters.
if you all ever want to read any of the updates i do believe they are public on the kickstarter site. we just dropped a major update today:

I finally had some time after dinner this evening to sit down and take a closer look at the 777 case.
I never got a reply to my support inquiry, but as @maffez suggested it looked like the faceplate and board on the new units might be removable after unscrewing just 6 screws (unlike the full knob removal the old 777 required). So I went for it, and indeed it was easy to open it up.
It turns out the piece knocking around inside was a metal screw for holding the board to one of the standoffs (see left side of the photo below). This maybe came loose in shipping, or perhaps more likely wasn’t fully screwed in at assembly. In any case it ended up being a quick fix and the unit booted up fine after reassembly.
Unfortunately I won’t have time for any music making with the 777 this evening or probably until next weekend, but I’m looking into diving into it and being moved by the spirit of Erik Satie when I do ;-).
Thumbs up on the knob replacement color scheme. I do feel like it’s kinda easy to get lost in the sea of black knobs.
