Not sure why I feel compelled to post this here (well, might be a good distraction for folks becoming unhinged about overbridge delay), but if you haven’t seen Mad Max yet, for god sakes do it.

I’m only slightly embarrassed to admit I’ve seen it three times already. I mean, goddamn, what a masterpiece. BTW, if you have only seen it once, the unanimous decision is that it is indeed better the second time. To those who have not, you’re missing some prime brain bashing.

If not that, go see Ex Machina.

Yeah, I heard they’re working in the sequel “Furiosa”. How the hell are they going to top themselves? There’s only like three cars left, one gallon of gas, and 20 bullets.

Ex Machina was solid. I love sci-fi that takes things to logical conclusions. And Oscar Isaac is a great actor.

The sequel to Fury Road is inevitable.
It made its huge production and marketing budget back and it was an R feature to boot.
That doesn’t even mention it’s the first action blockbuster with an RT score that high.
Sure better than another superhero film, although Max has the extraordinary ability to get his head near the ground at top speed and not die, so I guess technically that is some superhero shit.
The movie has so many incredible shots and sequences that, by the end, the audience I saw it with were searching for their buttholes as they had evidently been blown off.
George Miller being 70 And directing a film this good doesn’t surprise me at all though.
He was a medical doctor before a director so he can do anything he wants as far as I’m concerned.
Sidney Lumet was in his 80’s when he directed Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead.
My point is, age ain’t shit.

I loved everything about Ex Machina except Domnhall Gleeson; I just don’t like that dude.
He goobs me out.
The soundtrack and cinematography were so top notch.
Geoff Barrow always gets my attention and this didn’t disappoint in the slightest.
Loved Oscar Isaac as well.
Great directorial debut for Alex Garland.

Yeah, after seeing D Gleeson in Black Mirror (which is also ridiculously good) it’s hard not to see him as an android himself (maybe that was some intentional casting). I loved everything about Ex Machina except that fucking fake rock in the room with the painting. Super distracting for me. The dance scene made up for it though.

98% on RT is unheard of, and the one guy who gave it a bad review obviously takes himself too seriously. I agree about age not meaning shit. I just love seeing an older dude show the youngsters how it’s sposta be done. AND with limited cg.

Yeah, Black Mirror is so dope even he can’t detract from its greatness.
Here’s hoping season three continues that trend.

Miller’s age almost makes me believe that younger artists don’t stand a chance until they make as many mistakes as their progenitors.
Older artists have seen so many trends come and go that they can filter out the bullshit and focus on the task at hand; effectively blowing minds.
I don’t think a younger director would have handled Fury Road as well, but maybe it’s just really displaying the idea that true brilliance doesn’t face with age.

Finally saw Fury Road a few nights ago.
I think I waited too long and caught too much of the peripheral hype.

As a kid who grew up loving the original, I was pretty exited about it after seeing the first trailer.
Everyone I know, even the harsh skeptics told me how great it was.

It’s a great action movie that is a great successor to the originals.
Lots of real stunts and practical effects.
Although there is a LOT of cg work in the movie, it’s done well, and hides right in front of you, instead of overstimulating and desensitizing you.
I liked how they don’t verbal explain every aspect of story details and let many things just remain for the viewer to interpret it for themselves.

That said, it didn’t hang the moon for me.
And considering the hype you’d think otherwise.
It’s got some hella cheesy moments in it.
Considering the feminist media hype, I was surprised by the “sexy girls” reveal, it felt a little like the Matrix rave in pt3, typically hollywood.

Ex Machina on the other hand, has to be one of my new favorites.

They said something like 90% of the stunts were done practically- there was probably a lot less digital FX than most action movies.

Sure, there was less in some areas or ways, nevertheless every shot was touched digitally to some degree.

That said, it’s not cg that bothers me in most modern movies.
It’s bad writing.

Absolutely some cheesey moments. Loaded with them. It’s part of the Mad Max dialect though. Road Warrior (the best of the previous three) has a main bad guy with a Mohawk, wears mascara, and ASSLESS CHAPS! Humungus is a beefcake in a thong and a hockey mask. Thunderdome?

And there’s some ridiculous dialog for sure. Most of it in fact. I love it, probably for the same reason I love Evil Dead 2. Filmmaking purley for the sake of entertainment.

Just got home from watching, It was true to the originals with the cheese. I thought it was pretty wicked and I do intend to see it again. Lots of little details in there. Very cool.
