Furniture

Instead of thinking of musical gear as standalone instruments in a studio. Back in the day we had huge wooden panelled Organ a Hammond etc that became part of the house. Or a large upright piano. It had potted plants and lamps and books on it over time. The more i think about this the more i miss these hulking pieces that you could play anytime. They were almost like members of the family.
Have you any ‘furniture’.? I think drum kits fit in well and a guitar rack. But they do blend well.
A lot of gear nowadays doesnt seem to have that feel. I think the Prophets look furniture like. Esp the 5/10. Rhodes and Mellotrons to.

My piano comes to mind.
I have a guitar standing next to it, always ready for grabs.

There is certainly a beauty in having an instrument always ready, even if there is no electricity in the house ^^

Most of my gear feels like furniture. Also my back hurts.

Beautiful

Can someone please get that glass a coaster!

 That’s forgetful. I usually just stand it on the keyboard to keep it off the desk.

I’m guessing it’s Westmalle Dubbel in that glass…

Same and I didn’t live that era. I find studios that look like a man cave uninspiring but the stuff in your living room, a big 1950 guitar, pianos, having a big carpet and playing on the floor… the complete opposite.

There’s something about a synth on top a rhodes piano that makes my heart go brrrr.

Even stuff like the MPC 3000, or even the 2000xl was something that looked great. Now everything is cramped and small and boring :pensive:

At least the elektron stuff fits the industrial home decor nicely.

It was a Belgium beer - I believe it was a Gulden Draak though.

A Moog or Prophet on top of a Rhodes is a beautiful set i agree.

George Brecht’s Piano Piece 1962 involves only the performer placing a vase of flowers on a piano.

Our piano is one of the defining features of our living room.

Would love one of these La Voix du Luthier speakers.

Also dreamt of a Rhodes for ages but I think the piano will do.

Not my photo, but I have a piano keyboard on a similar Audio Housing desk and it feels like it’s here to stay

When I was designing/building a place I collected loads of photos on the internet of how people incorporated gear into their living spaces. I really liked this photo where the gear is on display as part of the living arrangement rather than off in the corner. Sadly my gear is off in the corner. Haha.

Looks cozy, but those synths clearly are just decoration (at least in this photo) – no power or audio cords in sight!

I have a couple of organs, one in the living room and one in the garage. They’re definitely furniture like. One is a Wurlitzer, one of their first transistor based offerings, and the other is a Baldwin (with the fun machine!) that’s much less classy looking and sounding and is almost twenty years younger.
I have drum sets and usually keep one set up in the garage. I only mention this because it was mentioned in the op. They don’t really feel like furniture to me since it’s a bunch of individual pieces arranged near each other and as someone who gigs I spend a lot of time carrying them around.
My cello can feel a bit like furniture if I haven’t been playing it. I used to play upright bass and that was like a roommate.
A lot of my amps and cabs not only have a furniture feel but end up serving the purpose. Most of the big ones are stored in a corner these days though.
I’m on the lookout for a decent (functionally) upright piano. They’re usually free if you’re willing to move them but they usually need some work. I recently remodeled a kitchen for the only piano tuner in my county and I knocked a little off the bill for a future tuning.
It probably sounds like I have a huge house, I actually just have a cramped house.

I forgot the double bass upright and Cello. Yes they are furniture. Amps and cabs as well fill up a room nicely. There used to be a piano in most peoples house. And yes most were out of tune lol.

My Cajon has been used as a side table way more than a Cajon for the last number of years.

What’s with this no coaster madness? I’m starting to lose faith in humanity!
