FP Sound Packs #8 (Routine) Sound Pack: Digitone, Digitone II and Digitone Keys

Would really like to move on to the final step and finish the sound pack. A few demos still need to be recorded, but I need Overbridge for this, but unfortunately I noticed that I have installed a newer version of Overbridge that is incompatible with the slightly older (1.32A) Digitone OS. I don’t trust updating to the new version on the Digitone because I’m afraid of patterns, patches, etc.

Anyone had experience updating from 1.32A to 1.41?

Edit:

I just did it and everything went well! Ok, Overbridge (version 2.7.9) currently doesn’t work “for me” with Digitone (version 1.41) in standalone mode, but it works in Ableton when I open Overbridge as AU.

Soooo, things aren’t going too well at the moment. Overbridge crashes in Ableton and Digitone freezes, the standalone version doesn’t give me any sound on the digitone (Digitakt does) and I don’t have a sound card to record with at the moment. So, everything is delayed a little. Not that there’s any rush to release it but I was actually excited and planned to release it this weekend. Frustration is part of making music…

In the meantime, because I can’t finish my new sound pack at the moment, here’s an outtake demo track from the previous sound pack routine, which I didn’t include in the demo tracks.

Hi FP,
Like your sounds in “Routine”, but is it only in sysex or does it also include dnsnd format files? I like to use them in the Digitone 2, but it does not accept sysex from DN1.

Hey @PatPier68 , first of all thanks for your feedback and your interest in the sound pack and I really appreciate that you like the sounds! Routine sound pack comes with both sysex and dnsnd which you can find in the “individual” folder. If you have problems importing or if something else is wrong, just write to me here. Thanks and until then, have fun with the sounds!

Cheers, Jan

Thanks Jan, that’s great!
I just bought your sound pack and it worked like a charm  :+1: on DN2 . Great work! Can’t wait for your “Digitone SP”.

Have a nice day.

Thanks Patrick! And for your support! Yes, the new sound pack for the Digitone has been ready for a long time, only a few demos are still missing and since overbridge doesn’t work for me that well at the moment with Digitone and I don’t have an audio interface anymore, I’ll have to buy one to finally record the demos. With luck and a bit more motivation, I’ll manage to release the pack for Christmas. Thanks again, have a nice day too. :relaxed:

Played live last night (while watching Supergirl 1984 on TV) on Digitone. It’s really difficult to play chords live on one track and simultaneously move the filters up and down on three other tracks. It’s a real shame that the Digitone doesn’t have the performance mode (Page) like the Analog Four.

This sounds amazing! Good to hear from you again, you’re still my favourite Digitone sound designer. :raised_hands:

My dear elektronauts,

I was just about to finish a new sound pack and I’ve been working a lot on it, and all the patches are finished.

Now it was just a matter of creating the demos and then putting them into a suitable video presentation, as always. It would all have turned out quite nice and presentable, but at the cost of my nerves.

Shortly before completion, so today, I realized that it would NEVER END if I didn’t draw a line under it. Even if it had been my last sound pack, I would probably make another one in 4 or 7 years and in the meantime check from time to time to see if anyone has written to me regarding the patches or questions.

It would have simply occupied me forever, and from an energetic point of view, other things no longer had any room. Nothing new would come of it.

That became clear to me today, and with a heavy heart, I have to say that I’m officially quitting making sound packs and have to look for something else, as this whole sound pack thing (even if it was only a hobby) negatively impacts my overall well-being.

I know it was not a lot that I did over this long period, and there were usually many years between the releases of a new sound pack, but the whole thing has been constantly gnawing at me. And the energy I put into it was never commensurate with the return… (Although I was always grateful for any support, so don’t get me wrong, it has nothing to do with ingratitude. I just didn’t achieve what I wanted to achieve and put in more energy than I got out.) Even though I’ve had many happy moments here, and even a big high when Elektron approached me with a request to create some sound packs or be part of the Digitone Keys patches bank, I have to say that it was always accompanied by pressure and quickly lost its appeal. The relaxed and magic aspect of making music was lost and transformed into a business model that never truly achieved its intended goals.

I will be deleting my entire library of sound packs (online) and the accounts where they are available at the end of the month (May 2026), as well as my account here on elektronauts, meaning I will no longer be available. (Don’t take it personally. It has nothing to do with the users on elektronauts.)

So, if anyone is still interessted in getting the library of patches for Analog Four and Digitone I created in 13 years, you have until the end of the month (May 2026) to get them here. After that, some sound packs (Drum Enthusiast, Unmechanical and Depth & Vision) will still be available on the elektron.se website, which are free to download.

It was a truly wonderful time here listening to the music of other talented artists, being inspired, and reading and writing beautiful lines. Getting my questions answered and learning tips and tricks that helped me with my project was invaluable. Thank you so much guys! I will cherish the memory of this period of my life, leave it behind, and look forward.

I wish everyone here who has accompanied and supported me on my journey and always encouraged me, all the best and much joy in making music

And why not say goodbye with a last snippet, jan

Completely understandable. Thank you for your inspiring work and all your effort. I’ll definitely use your patches as soon as I get a Digitone again. All the best, Jan. Take care!

Thank you Jan @M8 for your encouraging words! I’m glad if I could inspire you.

Really sorry to hear this, your patches are among my all time favorites for the Digitone, I still use them often. But if the situation was causing you stress and anxiety, then I think that you’ve made the right decision to walk away from it.
Best wishes to your future endeavors and thank you for all the great work over the years!

I bought and use your sound packs regularly and really enjoy them — I really appreciate your work. I’m grateful for the skill and care you put into them over the years, it really shows. Thank you.

Reading your post gave me a mix of sadness and recognition. The way you describe the pressure — that feeling that it would never end unless you drew a hard line — sounds really intense, and honestly quite draining to carry for so long.

As a full-time musician I can relate to that loop, especially when the recognition doesn’t quite match the level of energy put in. It’s not an easy place to be.

I hope you don’t mind me sharing this, but it made me wonder if the same drive that pushed you to go so deep into your work — and made it so good — might also be part of what made it hard to ever feel “done” or at peace with it, and maybe even part of what’s leading to such a clean break now.

I completely respect your decision, whatever you choose. At the same time, a part of me hopes your work doesn’t have to disappear entirely — it’s rare to come across something made with that level of depth and intention, and it really did reach people.

Either way, thank you. I hope you find something that feels lighter and more alive again, on your own terms.

First of all, thank you for supporting me over the years, for finding enjoyment in my sounds, and for appreciating my work so deeply.

I am truly glad to receive your message; it is genuinely sincere, understanding, honest, and insightful!

And you are right. It really was an intense and very exhausting experience. When I first started out, I simply wanted to make some music and express myself—and, without even realizing it at the time, it evolved into something else entirely. The fact that you understand this loop, evokes mixed emotions in me. On one hand, I am relieved to know I’m not alone in this; on the other, I feel sorry for you—sorry that you are able to relate to it so well!

My driving force was/is perfectionism, and it was precisely this drive that placed obstacles in my path. While it certainly pushed me to improve, but that improvement came at a cost. And that is why I am drawing a line under it all now. You really hit the nail on the head in your message.

My work certainly won’t vanish from the internet completely; people can still download the free packs from Elektron, and people here can share the other sound packs via pm or mail among themselves. I have absolutely no objection to that.

Thank you so very much. And yes—I have indeed found something new that feels lighter, flows much more smoothly, and will surely feel even better now that I’ve unburdened myself of that old baggage

I wish you all the very best, and thank you again for your kind and understanding words!
