Fors Opal users thread

It would, but I’d have to refactor how the colors are applied and how the themes are loaded – there’s a handful of people who have asked for it though. I have some UI stuff I want to take a look at with Pivot so maybe I’ll prod at that too when the time comes.

Thanks for considering it!

Hello guys, I just released another pattern bank for Opal on my gumroad :raised_hands:

Any Chance to Switch the opal patterns via midi in Ableton?

Thanks in Advance

You can do that in the envelope section of a MIDI clip. Choose Opal and Active pattern. Then set the envelope to the value (pattern number) you want.

The plugin keeps crashing in Ableton. I contacted the developer and sent them the crash report, but I haven’t received any response or suggestions for a solution.

What has your experience with the developer been like? Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks in advance!

Great. But it’s a holiday season, so response time can be longer than usual.

I’d try the latest Ableton beta too , perhaps it’s not the fault of the plugin … betas can be installed alongside normal release too .

I dont use the Beta Version. Just the regular one with the latest Opal Version

I’m very sorry about that! We just moved and things have been a bit chaotic. I need to sit down with the crash report and do a proper analysis, will do that today. Sorry for the wait!

Unfortunately the Max for Live stability has gotten worse and worse (and buggier) with every version of Live – I made some changes to Opal at the beginning of the year to harden the pattern loading to prevent crashing since it’s a very heavy operation, but it might need more work still/again. Could also just be something that needs to be fixed on Ableton’s/Cycling74’s end.

In any case, will reply to your email asap.

(EDIT: I don’t mean to throw Cycling74/Ableton under the bus regarding the stability, but it’s an honest observation on my end; there’s been more functionality added to M4L but it’s also come with caveats, there are still pretty major things that need to be ironed out. This goes for the plugin hosting too FWIW, generally I feel like Ableton has favored new features over stability the past few years, and as a developer this is very frustrating.)

Might as well write here since there might be more that are having issues like this; after looking through the crash report it looks like a bit of both, a bug in Max for Live and an architectural flaw in Opal that collabs on this crash, haha. I’ll report this bug to Cycling74 and see if I can improve things on my end too.
