Hi! I am working in an Elektron ecosystem, 80% production, 20% live. Devices come and go but rn A4/Rytm/Octa/Digitakt or Digitone. My mixer is 1010 Music BlueBox and using pedals occasionally. I am looking for a compressor for which I know, Boum or Heat+FX would be a good choice (would it?). But I was thinking - to achieve sidechain - getting an FMR Audio RNC or RNLA. Do you have experience with sidechaining with these + Elektron gear? If so, which one would you suggest? Oh yes: I am completely DAWless. My real estate is limited.
First up, can you tell us more about the sound(s) you want to achieve?
Are you looking for a particular sound, or do you want a flexible tool for different uses?
Do you wanna duck a bass to let a kick stand out? Do you want to parallel compress? Do you want to pump your strings/synth buss for house/techno?
Do you need the distortion of the Boum? The Heat doesn’t have sidechain, so you’d have to fake it with its other features.
