Flex sample simultaneous rec/playback works--but won't loop?

Hey all. First post here, I’m about a month into my Octatrack and have my first non-RTFM question.

I’m having problems getting a flex machine sample to loop when I trigger playback and recording at the same time. Though I feel like that statement in itself is already getting me in pretty deep. Is it possible to do what I’m trying to do?

Here’s what I did:

On first four tracks I put sequenced electribe drum samples playing a house groove.

Set track 5 to a flex machine, track recorder 5

Set loop to ON in rec setup

set loop to ON in playback setup

set loop to ON in the rec buffer using the audio editor.

(just to cover my bases)

set rlen to 16

I put one-shot recorder trigs on every trig in a one-bar pattern. (track 5 still)

Then likewise filled up the playback page with one-shot trigs.

In rec setup I set the source to MAIN to resample the drum pattern of the first 4 tracks.

I disarmed all trigs and then started the sequencer.

What I expected to happen: I was hoping when I pressed YES, I would trigger both playback and recording of one of my 16th note trigs, making the rec buffer record and playback for a bar, and then start looping playback only.

What actually happened: playback and recording successfully started on track 5, and even whenever I wanted them to (I can stutter the yes button and watch both playheads in the rec buffer continually restart!) but the sample always stops after 16 steps of playback instead of looping. If I simply trig playback (not recording) of the sample once again it will keep looping after rlen like it should, so it’s not as though AMP or anything else is the issue. I can even trigger the sample, watch it rec/play, fail to loop itself, and then go delete all the rec trigs, then press YES again to trigger the sample and it loops properly.

Could it be that playback position is reaching the end of the buffer slightly before the recording playhead? can I fix this with the right F IN value?

Does this have to do with having so many one-shot trigs? It doesn’t seem to loop even if I only use one rec/play trig at the beginning of the pattern.

Anyone have any idea if this can work and if it can’t, why?

bump; no one?

tl;dr: Flex machines are getting triggered to record and play simultaneously by arming one-shots. After this happens, my flex machine stops instead of looping after its sample length. Why?

Loop is set to ON in playback.
Loop is set to ON in ATTR
Loop is set to ON in Rec setup 1

The loop also does not continue if I trig the flex machine rec/play action with a normal trig instead of a one-shot.

It will loop if I trigger playback by itself, but not recording.

Any ideas?

I have had a lot of trouble with recording to and playing back a buffer at the same time.

When the OT firmware was still in beta you could manipulate the Pitch and Rate parameters for a Flex machine while playing a buffer that was being recorded to but it resulted in occasional noise bursts.

Now it appears that if you change these parameters while playing a buffer to which you are also recording, you get silence.

I haven’t tried to reproduce your steps (I don’t have the time, I’m afraid) but I would not be surprised if you are having issues with that use case.

Im not having your problem, doing same thing as you-------how is the Amp envelope set?

Make shure your pitch of the sample is not active. It happens that your live-recording sample will not be played back, if recording and playback are simultanous - if you try to pitch the recording on the fly .You can do it, but then the playback trigger has to start a little bit later than the recording.

Thanks for the replies everyone. My AMP release and hold were both set to inf. After reading sicijk’s post I cleared all scenes locks and all pattern pages of locks, checked LFOs and such but couldn’t track down what was preventing the loop. Pitch and Rate were set to 0 and full on the param pages but may have been locked in a way I couldn’t see.

Anyway, I started a new project and am getting the expected looping behaviour now. Will be ever-more vigilant in the future of my param changes and math required to keep the rec position ahead of, if not synced with playback.

Hi there !
Sorry for the bump, but this solved the problem for me, and it’s worse greeting everyone here

=> I use a lot the live playback while loop recording so i can adjust the input sound: it’s easier to preview inputs this way than playing with “dir” level in the mixer.

BUT if you want to be able to play while recording: DISABLE any Pitch / Rate settings (put resp. to 0/63) on the track !

Cheers

dude THANK YOU, I’ve been trying to figure this out for 2 days
