What are ya? Some kinda wise guy?

(thats jesus fucking christ)
i misspelled bated.
yes.
“I await with bated breath” was my intended sentence.
forgive me. Im on a staycation for my birthday(tmrw) and the drugs are beginning to take hold.
Unironically, 2 legitimate reasons to let it slide- under the much larger umbrella reason of: “its the internet” to let it slide
oh, its slid.
Ha! I actually had to look that up! As someone who’s picky with spelling, I’m ashamed to admit that I have fallen for that one for a long time.
So don’t feel bad you weren’t the only one!
I cant meme like you do
But I am waving my cowboy hat around
In the air of this bomb bay door
My thighs squeeze against the dull metal ribs of
my Hydrogen Bomb Horse
Giddyup, Buttercup!
Cry havok and cry honey
Let loose these dogs of war
My answer is definitely not within the first 30 minutes of the tutorial video, because after three times, what’s done in the video…that is, the glitch I ran into…is not immediately addressed. Between this thread and maybe later in the video, I hope to gain a bit more insight.
Hey everyone!
Okay, I’ve found the culprit…but I’m very confused by how it’s happened.
Some of you mentioned of TRIG mode, which I have not actively engaged with yet, not even in the video tutorial. It started with SRC, doing a A/B comparison between an active sample and a silent one. I figured that if the sample was not muted, then it had to be turned down somehow. I then went to TRIG mode, which again I had not actively used or learned yet. Another A/B test showed that velocity (VEL) on the silent sample was turned way down. I then turned it up, tap on the problem sample, and…it works! I then turned up another sample, and once again, sound!
I am baffled by how the entire top row of samples ended up getting the velocity turned down, but at least now I know if it happens again, until I get a better handle on using the DT2, at least I can now proceed., um, unabated!
I appreciate everyone’s help and encouragement. Onward!
Nice! Glad you got it sorted out and are back up and running.
NICE

Do you have incoming midi?
Might be an external controller sending CCs…
Sorting out such problems makes you understand the box better.
A good use of your SP404 is to add an extra layer of effects, keep it

Nope. I’ve yet to plug it, or any of the other MIDI devices on my desk, via MIDI cables.

Indeed. Just a little troubleshooting experience and some persistence helps, but also sometimes small nuggets of info from a community can be useful triggers, no pun intended, for the brain to process other potential solutions. And believe me, I’m sure to be relying on the community, as well as my own interest, as I get deeper into the DT2 world.
As for the SP-404 MK2, for sure I’ve decided to keep it. I thought of the effects, which I know it has a great reputation for, but also the pads for velocity, though I’ll tweak them in its settings since it’s not quite as porous as the larger drum pads. Will bring it into play, later.
Thanks, again!
I would really advise you to read the manual thoroughly, just to put things straight in your mind.

Here’s what I suspect happened:
In the Cuckoo tutorial, he introduces the concept of using the up and down arrows to move through menu sub-pages. At approximately 27 minutes into the video, he uses this technique (arrow down) to access the second source page (waveform).
I think OP was following along but then inadvertently holding down function, accidentally engaged trig mode velocity, and since that impacts all tracks at that point the top row all changed at once.
I’m sure that from there things only got more confused, but as it happens around the 30 minute mark in the video I’m pretty sure it’s possible that there was just some learning curve with the func key.
Maybe not! I don’t know, makes sense since arrow up and down plus func toggles between trig modes and the first trig mode down is velocity. You’d only have to hit it once and boom, it would be set.
It’s the only thing in that tutorial that would get us here, so OP has to confirm if he attempted to switch to the subpage using up or down arrows.
Nice catch. Seems obvious now.
Huh. That’s an intriguing possibility. And hats off to you for really digging into the weeds by watching the video and attempting to track down the flash point, as it were.
I do not recall using the FUNC button during the period from the recreation (or clearing) of a project. I have used the up/down pages only to move through pages during the tutorial, but if I have pressed the FUNC button during that time, I’m unaware.
With that, I’ll keep what you mentioned in mind, because as I mentioned earlier in the thread, I do not believe that TRIG has been hit on too much, and most of what I’ve think I’ve done was in the SRC mode. I could be wrong, but with me having to repeat a few times, at least consciously, I ended up going to SRC mostly instead of TRIG.
But I’m not going to discount the possibility you brought up; there are so many moving parts with this device, and I’m still weaving my way through using it by doing my best to follow the tutorial, the possibility that you pointed out cannot be dismissed; I will just be aware of that now.
Thanks again for sharing; again, good detective work!
Well…huh.
Not having used my DT2 yesterday, I left it in sleep mode, or something like it; device on, but screen is off. I woke up the unit tonight to get back into the tutorial again, and wouldn’t you know it…the top row turned silent again.
This time, I just simply chose each silent sample in SRC mode, turned up VEL, and the sound for each returned.
This makes me wonder if I’m running into a bug, or just hobbled by inexperience. I am baffled that it’s been consistent, but as long as I know I can get out of it, I’m just forging ahead.
Bah.
You can use CTRL-AL to set every velocity back to 100 at once, by pressing TRK while setting the velocity to 127 then 100.
Do you have USB plugged in?
Are you connected to your computer by usb and your computer has gone to sleep?
This has caused freezing in my OT.
As I said above, my DT gets weird parameter jumps on boot sometimes too. Samples suddenly in reverse that weren’t.
