Craig Anderton on his own forum:

“I suspect this will turn out differently compared to Gibson’s acquisitions…fingers crossed.”

Craig worked for Gibson for 4 years.

I bet Craig has all kinds of stories about his Gibson years, beyond just this

Of course the question is what does Fender want of Presonus ?

Is it primarily about Studio One, or is it the hardware products or both parts together.

This sort of thing is in free play in an acquisition. Fender could eventually strip less desired parts to help pay for the parts they really want.

I’m sure Fender even as large as they are, needs the diversification that this brings.

This is a US corporation acquiring another US corporation which helps enormously in clearing regulatory issues.

Looking at the giant behind the giant - Servco Pacific, majority owner of Fender since 2020… started as an automotive garage in Hawaii, and is still based there:

Fun fact:
They bought Gibson’s Department Store in 1968. No relation to the guitar company I’m sure.

No need to overcomplicate motives really

Of course, but how ? What is it that makes Presonus enough more valuable to Fender that they are able to offer a premium to do the deal ? The sale of a corporation is a competitive process, and Fender offered a better deal.

I don’t get it, but what do I know. Fender is already majority owned by a private equity firm, so is it just Servco Pacific picking up another music brand, or is there actually something that Fender is going to do with the parts of Presonus? A Fender DAW, really?

This also reminds me Presonus just released the v2 of their r65 monitor, always wanted to check out their inexpensive monitors

He is very likely one of the prime movers in making this deal, and bringing stockholders along.

I believe its a fault of our markets. being a solid stable company is not good enough. you must show growth to get more investors. and to make current shareholders happy. when you want to get bigger without having to create more IP, you buy other companies.

side effect: you don’t necessarily show profit after a few months, and have to cut back to regain margins. you dont have to care about what you acquire. you just have to show that you are growing.
and THAT…is bullshit.

MusicTech makes an interesting point in their article on this.

Fender, renowned over the last 75 years for its prestigious guitar range, says it aims to cultivate an ecosystem that “seamlessly integrates hardware and software to create an effortless end-to-end experience” for all music-makers. The brand claims that “while most guitar and bass players still plug into amplifiers, many also plug their instruments into interfaces, using virtual amps and effects to create their sounds.”

Fender has been investing heavily in amp modeling tech, such as the Tone Master versions of the Twin, Deluxe Reverb and Super Reverb amps.

The current line of Tone Masters, surprisingly, do not have built-in audio interfaces, while the lower end Boss Katana amps do. The digital Mustang amp has IOS/Android app support for preset editing, but no audio interface either.

No doubt acquiring Presonus would assist in R&D towards easier DAW integration for their amp modeling products.

Let’s hope there are no parallels to Gibson and Cakewalk.

It’s quite reasonable to think that Fender wants, for very good business reasons, to build a diversified music group, like Focusrite and others have done. The benefits to this can be many and varied.

Have you had a chance to try any of the Tone Masters? I am curious how they sound.

NFTs don’t show company growth. More money to be made with investors.
The more Sqft, products, buildings and bodies you have, the bigger
Company you are.

It IS simple growth = money.

NTFs are junk. 1 in a million.

Yeah, and it seems like they have been trying to branch out in various ways over the past decade. Getting out a new line of pedals, offering a whole slew of online courses, customized guitar builder on their website. A lot of little things that may grab certain people. Now with this acquisition they can really get into peoples computer ecosystem.

Also, as a side note, they still make amazing guitars. I have always been a Fender guy.
