FCB1010 vs the Octatrack

After numerous studies on my Behringer Midi Pedal, I have finally found out how to get the foot pedal to do some form of interacting with the Octatrack.

Which is a success…

…However, I’ve run into two issues:

Even when I switch tracks, when I go to record on a different pick up machine track it jumps me straight to the first track and records on there.

Also, when I switch tracks the recorded audio on track 1 hard pans left

Midi notes set as:

1- (i’ve tried both 60 and 61)
2- 64
3- 71
4-69
5- 68

Anybody experience any of these issues and can offer solutions?

What is the “some kind of interacting” that is a success?
Do you have anything to monitor the MIDI messages coming out of the FCB1010?
Which MIDI channels do you have set up on the Octatrack and on the FCB?
Are you using in some way the variable pedals on the FCB as well as the footswitches?

For a while, I was trying to input the proper numbers, and the OT wasn’t registering. So, I can change the active track, and I can record.

I have nothing to monitor the MIDI messages, and I haven’t programmed the variable pedals yet.

I hear ya. I’m about to return it myself.

Is there a solution? Or is returning it while I can a good call?

@Rael: I’m just going to go ahead and return it while Amazon will still let me. Did you find a pedal that works like heaven in comparison?

It’s not like the FCB1010 is not “high quality equipment”. If you don’t get along with, by all means return it, but there’s almost nothing that it can’t do.

I programmed my fcb and got it working quite easily using the midi settings in the manual. It works great. I do want the keith McMillan pedal though, mostly because I have the Quneo and I love it. The free editor for the behringer is not great, but it does work.

The FCB1010 is very flexible and amazing value for money. UNO chip adds even more flexibility. There’s hardly anything you can’t do with it but it is a pain to program.

It is very likely that your problem is caused by something that was send along with your notes that was in the default program. Every step can send 2 CCs, a note, 2 PrCh commands. First I would get an editor to find out what’s really going on inside the pedal. A midi monitor helps as well. Do a factory reset and program everything in the editor again from ground up.

I use the ripwerx java editor but there’s plenty of options, free and paid.

The softstep is great as well. It is VERY lightweight compared to the FCB. But keep in mind that you will need the Midi expander along with it to make it work and it will cost you 3 times as much as the FCB.

The Softstep is supposed to be USB class compliant so it should in theory work with an iConnectMIDI box if you already have one of those ( and thus not require the KMI expander).

The Disaster Area solution interests me to a degree, but it is close in cost to a Softstep.

My use of the Octatrack continues to evolve, so I haven’t decided what parameters I would like under foot control - as opposed to manual control - other than Scene A<->Scene B crossfade and rates for the track LFOs. That’s what’s holding me back from considering the Disaster Area - I think you have to tell them exactly what MIDI CC to Octatrack mappings you want.
