Got the MS-20 filter from Arturia when it was for free. Really nice and gritty sounding if you want to and great modulation capabilities.

Waves Metafilter is also great sounding, way cleaner but it also has a few unique tricks up its sleeve like a step sequencer with adjustable step count and tempo.

FabFilter’s Volcano is great, or their Pro-Q eq plugin works great as a filter too.

Kazrog’s Synth Warmer is really good, it’s a stand-alone 70s Moog style ladder filter.

Most of my ITB filter jobs tend to get done by multi-fx plugins that contain filters though… XLN’s RC-20, Air Flavor Pro spring to mind.

Thanks for the recommendations so far everyone! I’m surprised so few keep popping up as everyone’s favorites. If I would have asked about eurorack filter modules I’d have about 100 different recommendations already lol.

I forgot about fabfilter volcano! I’ll probably pick that up and keep my eyes peeled for when the soundtoys bundle goes on sale to grab filterfreak.

Is filtershaper xl different from what is included in shaperbox?

Yeah hypnotic techno secret weapon! Love this one.

Otherwise I’m focussing on ableton devices for now so just using Auto Filter. You can do quite a lot with the different models and drive etc

Unfortunately it is still not available for VST3/M1 Macs.

Side remark: it is interesting/unexpected that Cytomic and U-He (Uhbik) have emerged as among the most disappointing companies in that regard…

I am guessing you use the grid for deeper filter options in Bitwig? If you have any more info on this please share in the BW thread. I’m still pretty new to the software and don’t want to derail here, but I feel like I’m barely scratching the surface with the stock filter plugin (which btw, sounds great)

And yea, stock Auto filter is really good too, I especially like to set it in morph mode and use many lfo’s to control it.
