Does the OT load projects faster with CF cards over 133x speed? Of does it make no difference?

I’d like to speed up loading/saving of projects if possible…

Thanks

I noticed a faster files loading on boot with a Lexar UDMA 7 - 800x
But I didn’t make a comparison with the previous card.

I believe I read on EU that speeds over 433x were negligible at best.

that’s good to know - will try to pick up a used 400x and see how that goes

i ended up getting one of these too, and they definitely save/load faster than the stock Transcend 133x card that came with my OT.
i’d say it’s about twice as fast loading a project.

I am note really concerned about the load times as much as a card that is reliable.

I bought a Transcend 266X 64GB that is the exact brand/model as the stock 16GB Elektron sends with the unit. I figured it would have to be compatible and reliable if Elektron trusts that brand to send with their units.

I have had a few major failures now. I am trying to be very careful now, saving and syncing in the proper order… but still having bad luck with this new card.

I upgraded to 1.25c last night and after that NONE of the files created by the recorder buffers would save to the card… there is an error message and no file saved. I spent about an hour turning the unit off and on, deleting the bad files and trying again and again… same issue… when I open the Recorder Buffer sample in the editor and use the Save to Open Flex Slot I just get a bad file. I gave up before digging out the 16GB card from Elektron and ordered the Sandisk Ultra card.

I had JUST wiped the Transcend card, formatted in the OT and reinstalled all my samples after this error appeared on the OT while trying to find out why a majority of the samples on the card, many that I had never used, just mysteriously showed up with gibberish text…

I probably do not need to use a 64GB card… so I ordered a 32GB Sandisk Ultra ~50MB/s card because I read another user claimed his 32GB Sandisk never failed on him.

very frustrating. I like having a big card with lots of files to choose from… maybe I need to scale that back a bit.

I was hoping to get some feedback on cards that work the best. Is it that any 64GB is just too big to expect to work well?

UPDATE: Spent like 2 hours trying to get the card to work in the Octatrack… would not even Format in the OT. Spent forever trying to get it to recognize on any computer… my Mac eventually said the card is hosed and I can’t even read it anymore. Put it back in the OT, now it formatted and copied the files back on and seems to work again.

Just do not trust this card… think I might just use it to back up file onto and put it in a drawer.

I would say you just have a bad card. 64GB cards are suppose to be supported by the OT. The fact that you got it working again sounds like the card relocated some bad blocks while it was plugged into the Mac.
When ever I get any new storage (hard disk or flash) I do a few full writes to the whole drive first with a Linux tool called dd. First I zero it out, then write random data or a repeating pattern of data, then zero it out again. After each pass I look at the drive’s SMART data to see if any blocks are being reassigned. Some being reassigned isn’t necessarily an issue, but if I see a large amount (100’s to thousands) being reassigned each pass then I would RMA the drive.
Especially on the cheap end, way too much storage is DOA right out of the factory.

Thank you.

The other problem I was having is NONE of my CF card readers were up to the task of helping me out… I had 2 that are USB1.1 and a USB2 that must be broken because no computer would read from the card.

The whole experience was very frustrating. I will need to buy a decent CF reader in the future.

I am not going to worry about the 64GB card for now… my new 32GB Sandisk Ultra came in, I copied all my AUDIO files on to that card and deleted all my old session files and will just start from scratch. No huge loss.

I was very happy to be back to actually just enjoying my OT… not having it leads to me reading the forum and there is so much belly aching it makes me depressed
