Fascinating inside scoop on being a full-time Synth YouTuber

I just meant to try not fueling more toxicity.
Let it be  privilege.

For the record I’ve defended his comments before, but I’m not fan of someone with his platform attacking random people online excited about something.

I generally bow out of those anticipation threads because it’s just not my thing, but people have their reasons.

Maybe someone is going through a divorce, just received a cancer diagnosis, or just had a shitty day for reason x and speculating about something is just the perfect distraction. Who knows? So why judge?

I remember a lady that entered hospice and would knit various things every single day. Sweetest person and you truly felt for her and her family because the love was visibly there. People do things for any imaginable reasons, so why judge? Should we expect an anti consumerism video about buying yarn because of it? Or is it just synths and communities that discuss them are low hanging fruit?

I’ve been using he/him per the YT channel header.

I’m just wondering, was RMR ever active here in any form? Or does he just not like that Elektron won’t send him free gear anymore and equates Elektronauts with Elektron? I’m wondering if he even has any actual knowledge about / experience with this forum.

Why RMR’s new logo is Roland’s logo?

I find it fascinating people watched the video!

I also don’t enjoy gear speculation and GAS threads, I believe they are a waste of my time and bad for mental health, and since this is a forum with categories I simply muted those. I also have muted RMR’s videos from my YT.

So much of these types of rants are centered on the premise that us consumers have no control over what we consume, when we have absolute control over it.

True, he’s entitled to his own opinion. As we’re entitled to not agreeing on every aspect of that opinion

I don’t know if he ever was a member or not. But this is not the first time he’s been calling the place toxic (I remember a video ca. summer 2022), so there’s something going on.

edit: IIRC. Not gonna dig his video archives.

I’m pretty sure that hospital cafeteria sandwich I just shoveled down was also toxic!

You really can get anything in a sandwich these days…

my exhausted take on why this kind of (yes, toxic) topic is not a good look for the community ..

This ā€˜topic’ is, somewhat ironically, toxic trash, it really ought to be trashed imho ! Closed and hidden, it serves only those who need clicks or cheap dopamine highs

I have far less interest in this personal attack vibe or jealousy nonsense above than of some random youtuber’s sketchy opinions, which they’re entitled to btw, however bizarre they might appear from our perspective … if it was about topics like this it would be spot on

The aspect I fear about retaining actually toxic topics like this one is that any sense of standing on the higher ground is lost, i don’t see why folk give this recent clickbait video the time of day - you’re all being played like a fiddle by this ā€˜content’ creator and also by folks who like to light that match for the drama fireworks …

I usually mute stuff like this, i did, but unfortunately the flags still come … and there have been lots

There’s some pretty regrettable kick-back on this ā€˜opinion’ within the topic, as if it helps somehow; if you don’t agree with the assessment there’s actually no need whatsoever to react against it, ignore it, don’t feed it, don’t give it the oxygen it seeks … the only way is south if this kinda drama and over-reaction is humoured eternally on here, it’s all a bit ā€˜playground’ for my tastes

It’s one of a number of categories of topic (like politics) which provokes a strong reaction (imho the youtuber one is from jealousy) and this lazy reaction isn’t being diluted by virtue of a grown-up discourse, it’s being amplified by an ever-polarising witch-hunt … literally them vs us judging by some posts from above

let the youtubers do the youtubing, but don’t play right into the ā€˜outrage sells’ narrative and engage on that level otherwise elektronauts will end up being just like the rest of the internet

fwiw i think people get far too hyped on gear and on what it should be etc and i cannot relate to that, i find it pretty disingenuous for somebody who isn’t a part of this community to push a lazy judgement - it does smack of someone smarting from the outcome of their own erring … that’s old news anyway

the sooner we remove this type of topic the better imho - videos from all youtubers will be linked in gear topics, there’s little or no chance a topic about youtubers will stop being toxic if some of the posts above are to be considered - there’s just not going to be enough engagement from people who are not automatically triggered by youtubers to balance things up

i have this slightly abstract litmus test for stuff like this, i think what if I was Brian Eno … would it be credible for me to be engaging on this like this would somebody of that status ever have been engaging like that !

and the answer to my own post is also no … but the point is are people here to be keyboard warriors over massively unimportant shit or to engage on their art and craft and develop themselves

i guess people have their own people to swap into that thought experiment and I dare say some would be able to reply yes, but i couldn’t respect any artist stooping to these kinda levels to be frank … so that’s why i don’t care to see it (or sweep up after it)

Eno is accidentally an interesting individual to transplant into this discussion given how little he seemingly gives a toss about gear, or updating it - essentially discussions about refining processes/outcomes should be more important than on gear to be acquired …

I’m probably an outlier here but i wonder if people really care for this kind of topic - it feels more like a daily mail article in the middle of the guardian in my mind

it’s not a good look for elektronauts imho and it actually risks becoming self-fulfilling if we stoop to their level …

Yes, he still has an account as well that’s technically active. I think he last posted about the Ableton Move launch. But he largely suspended his activity after the stuff that happened with the Model Cycles. My guess is he’s finds it particularly toxic here because of the backlash around that, and that it’s further colored by Elektron overlooking him for new gear releases since then as well.

I suppose if you came here expecting toxicity, there are some threads that cross into it a good bit. There are a few posters here who descend into ad-hominem attacks sometimes, or at the very least, thinly-veiled antagonistic innuendo. But to my mind they are largely the minority, and between mods and other users calling people out for bad behavior, this place is about as clean a public park as I have found on the internet.

Saw the video yesterday and was kind of confused about the part on elektronauts. I’ve learn great advice for my different machines and clearly not all channels are the most anti GAS but mainly feel that the forum is driven by passion instead of consumerism. The forum isn’t ran by the brand Elektron I believe? I may be wrong

A couple of video before he was doing some Digitone tutorial on D&B sound design. Maybe something wrong happened between him and the marketing relationship with Elektron kinda weird to trash this forum

Yes it’s not a good look I agree and very unfair. Tbh - it’s also a bit sad that this critique is coming from a guy that actually makes his living by gassing other people and saying a community sucks because… people talk about synths?

I feel bad because even admins of this place put lots of personal effort in this community. I don’t have any elektron devices any more but I’m still here. If I hated elektron devices and ranted here - I wouldn’t be shunned like reddit. Or my post would get deleted like on his youtube videos. nauts is the first place I learn about elektron leaks. If it was owned by elektron why would they let tonverk sitting on top of the board for weeks. edit: it is owned by them. Not moderated by them though. Honestly - RMR’s jab on companies understandable but why elektronauts? I think reddit is way worse. Try to compare a hardware to a vst. You’d be chased with pitchforks and torches. Here I can say without any tomatoes thrown at me that serum is better than monomachine. It’s so unnecessary and feels weirdly personal. Many examples he gives to describe nauts is more fitting to yt community and reddit but not here. Yes there are a few sore thumbs here too but I’m VERY happy with the amount of zits compared to actual binary people on reddit and youtube.

people share their master thesis about musicology in here ffs. if that’s toxic - I’d happily drown in this ā€˜toxicity’ instead of sponsored advertisement content.

I’m not jealous of RMR, I just don’t like him lying about why Elektron don’t talk to him, then cussing us out to cover for it.

I think the only real way to deal with it is on YouTube. Makes sense.

As in make a video.
