What’s special/“gross” about Elektron here? Other manufacturers with a large user base also have them, right? For example, Sequential, Roland. Maybe Akai (MPC forums)?
I don’t buy this. RMR started out as a “look what I can do with an OP1” channel and got white big this way. Then he started making GAS content and probably grew further by doing that. But he has the audience now, so he could just make the content he’d like to see and give away all the free gear he got.

That’s fair. I guess that is how most of the synthfluencers got started: by being good at using gear and getting people excited about it, which naturally leads to them getting approached by companies for marketing new releases.

I personally don’t watch any YouTube content that features animated avatars, talking heads, or really anything where the creator tries to inject their personality too much. It’s always rubbed me the wrong way.
I definitely prefer the “here’s a piece of gear, let’s hear what it can do” style videos (or better yet pure performance videos).
That said, I think this thread is giving this guy way too much attention

For what it’s worth the majority of RMR’s modular reviews are exactly this and are generally very informative, with no talking heads or animations required.
Again, their comment in the screenshot is way off base. How is it possible to have a parasocial relationship with a company? Aren’t parasocial relationships specifically about people who you follow but they don’t know who you are, like for example, YouTubers? I really don’t know what the person is referring to in saying that people consider synth companies to be their “friends” here. More hyperbolic internet bullshit.
God forbid I like a company’s products because using them brings me enjoyment. Yet I’m still perfectly capable of criticizing them if they do something I disagree with, and I certainly won’t lash out at someone who lodges a criticism that I disagree with. I think that applies to most people on this forum. They’re acting as if this is some cult where you can’t say anything bad about Elektron. But really the argument seems to boil down to: we are slaves to consumerism simply for liking a specific company’s products.

Hah, yeah I was wondering if I was being that guy. But casting RMR as a poor exploited serf is disingenuous at best. He’s more like a drug dealer complaining how drug manufacturers are immoral and the drug user community is toxic, while completely ignoring his role as an intermediary between the two.

On youtube, I watch channels like Techmoan, Adrian’s Digital Basement, Pushing Up Roses, Taylor and Amy Show and LGR. Cool Retrotech, relaxing, no drama. When I want music, I go to my synths.
