F**** Octatrack didn't save last state!

A bout a month back I got the Bank Not Available, read a post about it here and since it didn’t happen again, hoped it would be a one off. I just turned on the Octatrack and the newest bank in the project was gone. Rebooted and the latest bank reappeared, but only in the last saved state. No Bank not available" warning this time GGGGRRRRRRRRTRR. Could the card be corrupted or something? I have the original and never taken it out. Not only have I lost several hours of work, I’ve got some gigs ibn the not so far future… so I’m getting apprehensive. I will save everytime before powering off . Anybody experienced the same? Is my OT crapping out?

It is possible for the Octatrack to get corrupted banks due to bugs in the OS.

A good backup / restore tool like OctaZip would come in handy here.

Maybe I can fix it for you. Maybe not.

I’m still using the original card that came with mine in 2011 and I’ve never had a problem like what you describe. Hopefully you’ll get it worked out. Which OS are you on and have you opened a support ticket?

Thanks for the replies Rusty and Konputa. I bought the machine 2 and half years ago new, I’m on the latest OS. No midi being fed into the OT during the lost session. I haven’t hooked up the OT to the PC to check the log, but since there was no message, my guess is there’s no log, but of course I maybe wrong. I’ve resigned myself to the loss and will attempt to rebuild I don’t see how Elektron Support would help other than suggest sending the OT to them. Since the Bank not available message, I have also Synced to Card before powering off each time after loading new samples. I will check the log and if this happens again, I’ll contacy support

I’ve been meaning to get Octaedit for a while now, but latest available funds have gone on iOS apps and Reaktor! I will defs buy OctEdit 2. Does the Analytics Engine retrieve / store data otherwise not accessible / visible on the OT when hooked up to a PC?

More like “Sorry, we can’t help you”; that’s what other cats who have come to me for help got told before.

The Analytics Module / Engine has two main modes; Active and Results

Active: Provides a matrix of what Banks, Patterns, Tracks, Parts and Scenes are used in a Project; so you can see what is used and what is not at a glance.

Results: Provides a report overview of various things that are invoked programmatically. e.g. Clicking on a Sample Slot will generate a report of where that Sample has been utilised in the Project; which Parts, Tracks and Sample Locks.

Rusty many, many thanks for your offer to help. I’ve since saved the project which may mean retrieval is imposssible? I remember most of what I lost and am rebuilding now.

Can you give an approximate date for the release of OctEdit 2?

No problem

Yeah, if you don’t have any backups and overwritten the files… well…

No

I’m working on some “interesting” stuff and things; tied up in a lot of heavy testing / finetuning; and yet not actually working at 100% due to reasons.

Shouldn’t be too far away; but I don’t want to commit to a date; as it is a massive amount of work; and I am only one guy.

Rusty, I’m definitely a future customer! Especially now preparing live sets OctaEdit would at the very least be a big time saver. I find drawing custom LFOs in the OT a pain - Octaedit solves this + immediate access to wave editor on PC screen + storing multiple templates +++++

I know others have said this, but Elektron should have taken you on, or at least offically endorse OctaEdit. I searched Octaedit on the Elektron site “no results found.”

It seems Elektron have conciously attempted to develop a certain annonimity and mystic around the company. But to me this comes across as just aloofness boardering on arrogance - and a bit naff - as if they’re trying to be the UR of music machine manufacturers. It puts me off buying any other Elektron products.
