lol thx… had the chance to ask them during that Ask Autechre Anything if they’re interested in this sort of stuff… but they pretty much said they’re not using Elektron gear at all anymore, packed and/or loaned it away…

bummer! it would make me proper proud if they would gave my programs a spin :]
obviously their music is a huge inspiration for doing this…

Arch Carrier :alien:

yessssssssss

sounds brilliant!

whats it made in?

Objective C, some C for the raw stuff.
graphics are done with OpenGL via cocos2d.

so it’s a native Apple only thing (OSX and iOS). Porting it to a different platform would require a complete rewrite, likely never going to happen… it’s a lot of code already and growing quick

at the core it is the same app as this, I just haven’t done much in terms of UI for the A4 yet:

Omg I need these things! Well up my street but I’m pc only … Argh

Never seen the machinedrum one either! What’s the story with that?

hmm the story is a long story…

the short version is that it’s still unreleased, mostly because the A4 is much more reliable & exciting to work with… doing these kinds of SysEx tricks with the Machinedrum seems to push it hard, e.g. when you send pattern/kit data to it while the sequencer is running, it may fail to read them, but it doesn’t notify the app when this happens… it sometimes even locks up / crashes… so this app still needs some work if I want to put it in the App Store… will do when I get around to it! The Kit Morpher works very well though, UserWave transfer too… But there’s a few things I want to add/reconsider…

hmm id even buy a cheap ipad just to run this unless anyone can make apc version - will it work with any of the ipad models??

i know nothing about apple products and oses

yeah it’s running well on my iPad 1 with iOS 5.1…
however, this OS is not supported by Apple anymore… less than 10 % of global iOS devices are still on iOS 5… it’s 2 major version behind the current iOS 7, might be that future SDKs make it impossible to build for it, sooner or later I’ll have to drop it… better get at least an iPad 2, the all new models are so much faster though, might as well get one of these…

in any case wait til the app is out though before shopping an iPad just for this haha :]

iPad 2 at a minimum is required to run most great apps with Audiobus full support without lag.
This Summer bought iPad 2 just for Waldorf Nave App…really sick app. The Genoqs Sequencer is pretty advanced as well.
Treat my iPad with Nave on it just like another pc of hardware rack synth kit and simply run audio right into my Focusrite Scarlett 18i20.

In case anyone needs to know, the iOS App “TB MIDI STUFF” totally allows you to make Templates for any synth that has full midi and Sysex support…bipolar midi direction is really needed, meaning that the A4 without proper midi out is a no go.

doesn’t sound quite right, the A4 chucks out midi just fine over USB which is how you’d hook it up to an iPad anyway !

Totally sick. I love the layout. You may have inspired me to do this in Android…

This is a fairly inspiring thread.
Great ideas

how about an open beta for all of us elektron owners?

uuuh mang! this is SO hype!!

I’m thinking it would be possible to do something similar on Lemur, which would avoid the backward compatibility problems…

The Machinedrum app looks soo advanced. And the sounds coming out of the MD are stunning. I wish I could get it sound so beautiful. Great work.

I guess with the new A4/AK OS you have to make your app compatible. I hope Elektron will finally have an insight and support you more.

These apps are incredible! I would pay for them.

keep us posted man!.. i showed the vid to a couple of peeps and they were all like “oooooh sweet! whens it gonna drop?”

jus wanted to letcha know… we’re here waitin’ with our drool-buckets attached!

thx for the feedback guys, still working hard on this… it’s like a good wine or something :]

it’s not possible to do it with Lemur because Lemur’s sysex handling is shit. :joy:
maybe some subset of the Machinedrum app could be done (fast kit switching), or something which only makes use of CC/NRPN, but the cool sysex stuff is impossible or at least highly impractical with it.

Lemur has an edge with regards to GUI, its editor and everything is nice, while I have to build all that from scratch with OpenGL.
But I think I have the UI concept down now, and the sysex functionality itself works solid like a rock. In fact, my app now has full control over the AF except for enabling the REC modes. stay tuned!

big thanks for the update! this is so damn hype!!
