NEW OCTATRACK TEMPLATE

Hybrid 4X4 Performance Mixer 1.2

This new template includes classic techno effects and many experimental effects inspired by the Hyper FX template and Performance Mixer 3.0, though none of the effects are quite the same. The superpower of this template is the 4X4, which has multiple meanings.

First, four Free Flex Tracks are preassigned and ready for sampling. They are prepared on all parts across all banks and patterns. The flex tracks can and should be routed through the Hybrid 4X4 template’s effects via the CUE output and back into the Octatrack inputs.

Second, the effects are set up in four blocks of four effect types. These effect types are consistent across all PARTS. The PARTS are named EARTH, AIR, FIRE, and WATER.

  • FX block 1 is a set of four beat repeats. Some repeats have modulation, and all of them repeat at different rates for you to slam at any time.
  • FX block 2 is a set of four “Hyper FX” or “beat juggling” effects. These effects are meant to create new rhythms and travel to otherworldly, granular-stretching soundscapes. All of these effects are synced and play well with any music type.
  • FX block 3 is filter effects. These are manual effects you can ease into with your crossfader. Scene 9 is always a classic high-pass filter, and scene 10 is a low-pass. The other two filter effects will vary vastly from part to part.
  • FX block 4 is automated effects. These are risers, build-ups, and tension breakers.

This template took me a very long time to create, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I have during its development. I look forward to seeing your results.

I don’t own an octatrack yet but I’ve been looking into using it as a performance mixer. is there a reason you route it through an unused digitone in this video or can you skip this and just run a cable from the cue to the inputs? Thanks!

100% just go strait back into the inputs.

This is the best SIDE-CHAIN setup Elektron has to to offer us so far.

First wanna say love your work and tnx for all the knowledge over the years!

IIRC you had an Octatrack template setup to emulate the Microscosm, have you considered doing something similar to emulate (whatever is emulate-able) from the Torso S-4?

I need to get my hands on S-4 to do that!

Hello, ridiculous question: I load an EZBOT template into my CF card projects folder but can’t see it when I go into the file system on my Octatrack. Has this happened to anyone? Is there a simple thing I’m not doing! ???

It happened to me but it turned out it was because I placed them inside a folder and they need to be in the root folder if that make sense.

Yeah it’s really weird - I’m convinced I’m placing it in the root folder and it’s still not showing. Just when I feel I’m finally getting to grips with the Octatrack I find I can’t use the file system properly.

drop the unzipped project folder in with your other project folders. make sure the files inside the folder are the .work files. If there is another folder inside, you’re putting the wrong folder in.

Hey Matthew, have you or anyone else had an issue with the Octatrack not creating the correct file structure when formatting a CF card? I’ve realised that this is my issue and after trouble shooting, including buying a new CF card, and resetting the Octatrack to factory settings I still can’t get it to format my CF card with ANY file structure. The Octatrack will still function and I can save and load projects but the file structure isn’t in place and I understand this effects the whole system - meaning that I can’t install your templates for example. The internet doesn’t seem to provide any answers to my issues!

Sorry! I totally believe this could happen but I have never seen it.

Hi, I’m trying to decide a template but, even it’s everything very well explained in videos and the comparative table, I don’t get some things.

My intention is to use the OT with the Xcelon SL, and some synths as well. I’d like to use the OT as an FX module, not sure if as inserts for drums and synths buses, or as returns. And why not being able to use internal samples. The idea is to make techno and electro.

Some decisions to make, quite hard without having the mixer yet not the template.

Can you help me find the balance to not complete lose the insert, return and sample playing options?

For example, if I use it as two inserts, there’ll be no reverb or delay sends nor samples into a channel.

Any ideas?

Honestly any of the templates will work if you pair it with a mixer. If you want to use samples i recommend any of the “Hybrid” templates. Otherwise you can try any of em

On the Patroen there is one called Octatcosm, I think you’d like that.
