External MIDI controller (via Syntakt)

I’d like to be able to use a simple external controller (something with just a couple of knobs) to control a couple of key parameters on my original Digitone - filter cutoff, amp release etc.

I’m already using the MIDI in on Digitone to recieve clock sync from Syntakt.

Is it possible to plug an external controller into Syntakt’s MIDI-in, and have it pass through the Syntakt to control Digitone?

I’m assuming it is, providing I set the MIDI channels so that they don’t affect anything on Sytakt - so if Syntakt is ch 1-8 then set the controller to Ch 9 or whatever?

If someone could explain how I’d go about doing this I’d be really grateful. I don’t want to buy the controller until I’m sure it’s possible you see. And I’m not all that familiar with MIDI routing stuff.

TIA!

I don’t think it’s possible, I think you need an external MIDI router box to combine the two midi signals into one.

Cool thank you.

To control the DN via the Syntakt, you need to connect the DN to the Syntakt’s MIDI thru. This way, however, the DN will no longer receive clock from the Syntakt. Use another source that sends clock to all devices, or use the Syntakt itself as a controller, creating a MIDI track in the Syntakt.

Thanks for the reply. The solution I came up with was to use the DN as a master clock, so ST is synced from the DN, which leaves the DN MIDI input free for a controller.

It doesn’t really matter which is the master for me, I just need to learn the muscle memory for having the tempo knob on the right rather than the left.

You could swap them around… :cheeky:
