I’ve set up as follows:
external midi keyboard out -> OT midi in
OT midi out -> A4 midi in
Is it possible to slave the A4 to the OT transport and clock, AND send the midi note + CC from the keyboard to the A4?
I guess I’m trying to find out how to merge the OT midi thru stream from the external midi keyboard connected to OT midi in, into the OT midi out.
(I could instead connect the A4 midi in to the OT midi thru, but then I’d lose OT as master I think)
You can slave the A4 to the OT and send midi notes + CC to the A4 with the external KB via the OT midi. Just make sure the channels are configured correctly on both the OT and A4. Another option would be to buy a midi merger, which would let you merge the OT midi out and KB midi out to the A4 midi in. I’m not sure if that’s exactly what you want, but both ways have worked for me.
Thanks Thermo. What I am struggling with is where to find the setting on the OT that sends incoming midi from the KB to the OT midi out ?
Assuming that your keyboard and OT are on the same channel (like 16), hit the midi button to go into midi mode (yellow led), then double tap the playback button. That’ll open the midi note setup menu for the selected midi track. Turn data knob A to select the channel (e.g. 1 for track 1 of the A4, 2 for track 2, etc) and press yes to confirm it. You may need to configure the midi settings on the A4 but it should work with the default settings. Now when you play notes on the KB it should play sounds from the corresponding track on the A4 which you can sequence with the OT. I know that CC mapping is also possible, but I haven’t delved too deeply into that yet. I only discovered all of the above in the last week. Hope that helps

it seems then that if I don’t want to tie up midi tracks on the OT sequencer as ‘routers’ of midi to the A4, which seems to be required, I’d be best getting a midi merge box as you suggested to blend the OT transport + clock with the KB, into the A4.
(I’d prefer to use the A4 sequencer for the A4, rather than do any A4 sequencing in the OT)
Would be nice if the OT could do this OT midi in + clock + transport merge, without using the OT midi tracks to route OT midi in to out, but it seems not possible.

That’d be ideal for me too but I don’t think it’s possible. I think I’ll go back to routing my KB through the midi merger with the A4, especially now that we have polyphony. Sequencing the A4 on the OT seems kind of redundant…
