Do you have any JHS stuff? I was looking into their neve-like preamp. Looks really really solid. I’m not sure that you’d need it with the H90 (it’ll take line or instrument) but depends on the use case

Right, I should clarify that my use case is vocals (not guitars or necessarily synths though I’ll absolutely try that out more now) and I’ve been trying out various vocal fx boxes to little interest.

The Neve-like preamp works awesome with microphone level signal, after I get that sonically understood well enough I’ll move on to synths / instrument level.

H90 is incredible, it’s certainly favorite pedal of all time.

The software editor is really easy for anyone who’s spent 5 min with a VST plugin

There are basically 25-30 “algorithms” which are like dedicated fx plugins, a couple reverbs, some harmonics, a couple of delays, a new vocal suite, etc. each of those has 15-20 adjustable settings.

Just think of each “algo” as its own Boss pedal, then you can chain 2 of those together in the performance patch, and switch them off or on as needed.

Highly recommend using the stereo in and out for full spectrum color!

Yeah no-one should sleep on the software editor. It really helped me build a cognitive map of where everything is in the pedal with their terminology (Programs, Presets, etc.).

Now I just do everything on the pedal itself.

I also love the flexibility of the routing. Right now I’m using it in dual-mode so I effectively have two discreet pedals as sends on my mixer. But sometimes I’ll use the Analog Heat as an insert. You can even use it as a 2 Stereo channel mixer!

I like my H90 too; just wish you could select the algorithms directly without having to find a preset that contains the algorithm you want

Have you tried the app? It gives a nice dropdown menu with all the algorithms organized, no patches involved.

Yeah I have. What I mean is- and hopefully I’m wrong here- is that in the app, if you start from an INIT patch, to load an algorithm (say “filter pong”) you have to open the preset library tab and then select an algorithm; at this point all you’ve done is filter down the preset list to those that use the algo that you’ve selected. You still have to choose a preset to load it into a slot- you can’t just choose a default form of the algorithm.

Not sure if I worded that well or not lol…

I’ve seen explanation from Eventide guys somewhere (maybe reddit).
What is default preset for a harmonizer, or flanger, or reverb? Ask ten people and you’ll get ten answers.
So, they intentionally don’t use init preset, users can use any preset as their starting point. At a cost of an additional step which I’d like to skip.

I think you’re correct. When loading on the pedal the algorithms aren’t in a particular order and sometimes repeat in the list because they seem to be attached to presets. When you choose an algorithm from the app, there is actually a default for each algorithm titled the same name as the algorithm.

Can you elaborate on what aspects you find “too digital”?

I do like a rawer, low bit digital sound and early Harmonizer algos, for whatever reason the modern UAD pedals I never got into. I liked the Ensoniq DP/4 but the programming (even with a 3rd party app) also didn’t click. I have not heard the latest platform/engine from Strymon but never really gelled with the previous sound in the Volante or Big Sky.

Anyway, curious since it’s fun to hear people describe timbre and helps me understand others’ experiential.

ok, I just updated the app, and apparently now you can select both default versions and presets of each algorithm directly from the Edit screen, without having to use the Preset Library tab. I swear I tried this before, and it didn’t open up a drop down menu like it does in the new app version (right at the top next to “A” and “B”)… but whatever- works as wished/expected now! Time to dig in…

The only place I’ve seen patches being actively uploaded and shared is on Patch Storage. There’s some very useful stuff on there though.

User brock has the best presets and has done a lot of work for the H90 user preset community.

One of my favorites is the attempt at replicating the Lexicon Vortex, which I own, and he did a really good job.

I have all his presets on my H90 and heavily use/enjoy them.

I’m very exited to be getting the H90 next week
I must have seen every demo there is by now. Looking forward to get great spaces and good traditional effects and then there’s all the experimental stuff. I’ll try it with all my machines, both on synths, drums and the master bus.

I do however find it odd that there’s no dedicated granular algorithms. Hope Evetide will add that.

I’ve got mine dedicated to vocals, though I should really find ways to organize patches better for that.
