I would totally get one for my kids, except my kids all learned on all of my gear, my modulars, keyboards, monos, drum synths etc. Then two of the four switched to guitars/basses  The two that are still into synths more, just hang out in my studio when they want to.

This would be really cool for kids that aren’t lucky enough to have musical parents I think.

Very cool project. Fan of Girts/Erica and Richie, so I approve!

Looks cool, hope it inspires some kids, I suspect most kids will find it boring these days, but some won’t.

The unfortunate truth there is that most people find most things (that require any real comprehension) boring. We can only help those who are willing to help themselves.

Help them…

…by plunking them down in front of 16U of banana modular, giving them a couple of fists full of banana cables, and saying “GO!!!”

Well… Yes.

Might have to strap them to the chair of course…

I pray that any social worker slash synth enthusiasts have a sense of humor.

Can always strap them to the chair too. I’m not above it!

IN YOU GO!!!

(That’s Drew Neumann’s banana setup, not mine… (though I have had similar amounts at various times))

Do you think it’ll say Made in Detroit on it, but then everyone will find out it was actually made in Canada…

as long as it doesn’t say made in a hurry I’m pretty sure a blind eye can be turned…

Made by Dr. Bootygrabber in Canada. :stuck_out_tongue: (DE9 reference…)

See now, I’d have loved that.

My youngest has done some patching on the 4U stuff before. She started getting the hang of it. However, she’s more of a gadget type person, so she basically stole my PO-Megaman, got better at using it than me, so I got her a Volca Drum. Got good at that. Then I gave her my CobaltX, which is currently her favorite synth aside from my Grandmother.

I’ll be building a new 4U banana setup for the studio pretty soon again though, so they’ll be able to patch again if they want.

A bit off topic, and I’ve posted this before, but once I post that pic of Drew’s studio above, I have to post this with it:

Absolutely ridiculous!!!

And here all my dad did was make me cut the grass…

Just kidding. My first synth was a Casio SK-1 Sampler. I was 8, I think.

Lucky kids.

I had to do some grass cutting, but my dad also got me into computers, synthesizers, and dirt bikes. We lived in the woods, so I could do all of those in a day. Which made me not want to focus on my piano lessons, do homework, or anything else that wasn’t computers, synths, or dirt bikes.

And now, at the age of 46, I pretty much do:

Computers, synths, and… Porsches… (I don’t have anywhere to ride dirt bikes anymore really.) Probably good since I have a wife and kids.

Sounds like we grew up in similar households.

I’m just waiting to hear how Richie markets it. Always makes me laugh when he gives a TED talk about his “new setup”. Every time the conclusion is the same, he’s running Traktor with way too many annoying delays and other efx, through a $10,000 mixer.

Did they hand SK1s out at schools or something? That was my first memory of a “synth” and I don’t even know how my family acquired it. Just found it one day in the other room.
